I'm trying to find out the RMS level in a file and I'm getting two different results. The Statistics (in the Tools menu) gives -15dB (17.5%) RMS and the Normalize (in the Process menu) gives me 12.2 dB RMS when I click on Scan Levels button. Which is correct? Thanks, Sergio |

The Normalize process includes and option for flat versus equal loudness respones, and an option to ignore silence. Setting the response to flat, and the detect threshold to -infinity should give you the same value as Tools -> Statistics. |

I coudn't find the option to ignore silence, but unchecking "use equal loudness contour" did the job. Thanks a lot. Serge |

Ignore silence isn't an option. Set the slider in the middle to a threshold of -Infinity to disable it. |

So...which is more appropriate to use for setting playback levels ? Flat or equal loudness contour ? |
