I keep meaning to post this/pass it on - off topic but figured maybe someone here might know someone sort of thing.

===
I'm a Casting Producer with ABC Television and we're looking
for great families with mom who perform in punk/rock bands feature on
our upcoming season. We're looking for those individuals who put in the
blood, sweat, and tears to make their band a success. Do you put in
long grueling hours of practice each week? Do you make personal and
family sacrifices to be at each gig - or to get your band noticed? Are
your kids involved with music as well? Our show could be great
publicity for you and your group!

We're currently casting for ABC's hit family show, 'Wife Swap!'
Please don't be confused by the title - "Wife Swap" is a family show on
ABC primetime. The premise is simple: two moms from two very different
families get the opportunity to swap lives (but not bedrooms - everyone
has their own!) for a week to experience what it's like to live a
different lifestyle - and to see what they can teach each other about
their own! In this case we're looking to feature the fun, hectic,
exciting lifestyle of a rock and roll family. We realize that a lot of
hard work goes into what you do - and would love to give another mom the
chance to step into your shoes. I would greatly appreciate you
forwarding my information on to any of your fellow band members,
friends, and associates who might be interested in sharing their lives
with us for a week!

All featured families will receive a $20,000 financial
honorarium - and $1000 goes to anyone who refers a family that makes it
on the show! We are looking for two parent families with children
(between the ages of 5 and 18) who are ready for adventure! I appreciate
your assistance in reaching out to these great families and look forward
to hearing from you soon!

Best,

That sounds awesome! No punk rock wives over here though.

I cant believe that this doesnt bother people. Think about it. They name the show after an sexual act that contributes to sexual deviance then call it a family show. Thats just completely irresponsible. Sure some could say its ajoke or a knock on the act but then the same could be said for the porners who use movie title knock offs as well.

Furthermore, that show does nothing but decay modern marriage and society. Those that contribute to it should be ashamed of themselves for pimping out their wives and families all in the name of cash. I would NEVER put my wife through that. If I wanted to swap wives with someone then I never would have married the girl I did.

Ewwww boy.
SCREW YOU with all these IDIOTIC "reality" (yeah, right) show ideas like this.

This reality crap is long in the tooth, just complete bullsh*t.

pmasters, have you watched a full episode of this show?

I can't say I love the show, but it's really not all that bad, and yeah, they could have named it something better like "family swap", but the show basically shows you how "others" live.

It's usually two familys who have opposite ways of living, and then putting each family in the other family's situtation. Kind of makes you re-think how you view others and how others view you.

It's usually extreme familys, so I don't know if I would qualify. I have too much of a "normal, boring" life, not that that's a a bad thing.

I watched a couple of episodes and it looks very "scripted"
I really think most of the stuff is already decided... It just doesn't sound right to me.

Hidden agenda bulletin:

Follow the money. Imagine what a network would pay to the professional writers, actors and 'real' directors to fill a half hour of primetime instead of this drivel. This is union-busting.

I think the average Joe and Jane do tend to act a bit 'scripted' when they know they're going to be seen by millions, I think the clinical term is 'performance anxiety' :)

But jokes aside, one of the original series in this genre came form down here a long time ago. The truly remarkable thing was what the players did regardless of the cameras.

I did meet one of the crew from one of the Survivor series, trust me that's not a gig you'd want, you think the contestants have it rough, well the crew don't fare much better, it's a very gruelling job working in the tropics with no creature comforts.

But I agree, I'm long over this kind of stuff.

Reality shows are scripted. This didn't get to the surface until the writers went on strike for better pay.

Reality shows are scripted.

Thaks for confirming my suspicions. I watched an episode of Survivor when it first aired years ago (to see what all the fuss was about) and immediately thought to myself "there's no way this isn't scripted down to the last putdown". I haven't watched it (or any other reality show) since - and don't feel that I've missed anything.

They're not scripted like you think. The hosts are generally scripted, and situations are devised to ensure (as much as possible) that interesting things will happen, but dialog between the contestants is not scripted. Think about it, if it was, these no-name people should be winning awards, because while they might not have the charisma of a genuine star, they sure don't come off as reading from scripts.

Also remember that you're seeing an edited piece, and a LOT can be manipulated in the editing. These editors would make Eisenstein and, even more so, Kuleshov stand up and cheer.
