Short Version: I'd like to be able to transfer digital audio from DAT or MiniDisc over S/PDIF while retaining the tracks marked on the original media. Long Version: My group is doing narration onto DAT and MiniDisc media in an audio booth. The narrator can mark tracks with either deck. The narration, usually 30 to 60 minutes worth in a session, eventually gets broken up into separate files and converted to MP3's for use in web-based training. Right now the audio gets transferred to the PC using SoundForge via the S/PDIF inputs on one of a couple cards. The audio comes through as one long file and must be gone through and broken up into the 100's of separate files. Does anyone know of a method to: 1) Retaining the track information from the digital media and creating multiple files or at least marking the resulting audio file at each track-change. 2) Having the narrator use a clicker or tone generator between each break to do the above. 3) Some method to take a silence, of say three seconds, between each narration chunk and automatically breaking up the file. The software used could be anything, doesn't need to be SoundForge. -Joe Bauer BTW: I've heard of one method, a British company using discontinued Sony SCSI MiniDisc players, that transfers the data over SCSI retaining the track data, but the company I work for won't buy used equipment and that's the only way to get that method to work. |

Have you tried Auto Regions, Auto Trim/Crop and Find? All of them have presets that may work in your case or you could adjust them yourself and get the results your looking for. MJ |

Thanks for the help. I'm using WinNT, so I'm limited to SF4.5 right now. Auto Regions finds many more regions than what I want. It sometimes breaks up words and sentences. Find seems to do a good job at finding words, but I can't make it find sentences or breaks of X-seconds. I've tried all the adjustments I can think of but I can't get either of those functions to set regions reliably. Is there a preset or settings somewhere that can take 3 seconds of silence and set a region mark? If I could do that I'd be all set. -Joe Bauer |

Did you ever find a solution to this? I want to drop markers after N seconds of silence (determined by a db threshold) |
