Subject:Anyone using the BOSS DR-880 with ACID

I am using SONY ACID Music Studio and am interested in purchasing a drum/rhythm machine as well. I have been looking at the BOSS DR-880 Dr. Rhythym. I was wondering if anyone else was using ACID together with the BOSS DR-880. Are you connecting to your computer with the USB connection or using a MIDI Interface?

Just my 2 cents here but why would you buy a hardware drum machine for use with ACID? ACID is already a killer drum machine by painting one-shots on the timeline. If you must have a drum machine I would buy a Soft Synth (VSTi) drum machine like NI Battery or Fxpansion DR-008. They are cheaper and there are no cables or audio to worry about.

If you use a hardware drum machine, you’ll need a good sound card to record it because you need to record the audio outputs of the drum machine into your computer to do your final mix. You will also need to keep the drum machine and ACID in sync via MIDI throughout the whole song. It works in theory but many people experience tempo drift. IMHO, hardware is not worth the hassle.

I use a drum machine. Yamaha Drum Machine D55C. I can use the built in rhythm or I can play using drum sticks. It has MIDI, but I tap the audio from the D55C and record it in ACID. Works quite well, and even better with ACID PRO 6 that will record more that on track at one time.
