Well...this is the first time I've ever had such a problem with any software. I have installed the Sound Forge version 8 Audio Studio onto my computer. It appeared as though it installed correctly...there were no error messages. When I go to click it on the curser turns to an hourglass and the red background pops up with the woman with headphones and some info on the left side including my license name and serial number and the fact that it's Sound Forge. Then....that's it. The hourglass goes back to being a cursor and the red background disappears. The window will not open. I did see in the troubleshooting about making sure the security on termination or something was in the manuel position and the start position which it was.....other than that I'm at a dead end why the program will not open. My computer is less than a year old...has two hard drives which have plenty of space left....like 15 gigs on one and 40 gigs on the other. I have 512 megs of ram and a 2.8 celeron processor.

Someone or something has disabled "Terminal Services" on your PC, probably in a misguided attempt to "tweak" it so it runs faster. You will need to re-enable "Terminal Services" to get Sound Forge to work on your system.

To do this, follow the steps described in the knowledgebase in Answer ID 698 here

It appears to be fine....if you look at what it says.. this is it:

Name Description Status Startup Type Logonas

Terminal Services Allows mult.. Started Manuel Local System

So I'm still lost as to why the program will not open..

Hi Scoop, I sent you an ameil last night that may help. It seems that the Sound Froge splash screen may be covering an error message and until you answer the error you are stuck....try this......right click on the program at the bottom of the screen and choose "Move", use your arrow keys to move the error message to where you can see it and take care of it. This is what fixed it for me...hope this helps

Do you have any VST plug-ins installed? You may want to temporarily re-name "sfvstwrap.dll" in the Sound Forge installation folder and try again. This will disable VST functionality, but if it starts up, you'll know that a VST plug-in is the root of the problem and we can take further steps to diagnose which one is having problems.

I have the same problem. Did you ever get an answer that worked?

After all the work you've tried, why not just start over, fdisk/format your h.drive, re-install windows, something is obviously seriously wrong and even if you do get it running who knows what other stuff you'll encounter.

Have you tried temporarily removing sfvstwrap.dll yet (as mentioned in my previous post)?

I have this same problem on a new HP D4100E with XP MediaCenter 2005. I just purchased SF Audio Stuido V8 at CompUSA. The first time I started the program, it asked for the key from the manual. Afterward the splash screen disappears with no error messages. I've verified that the terminal service is running. I'ver renamed sfvstwrap.dll.

I went to the website for an update (and somehow ended up with V8.0a - bld 63) -- I see now that the latest update is V8.0b so I've tried downloading it but it didn't finish overnight. Trying again today (10 hours to go it says).

There doesn't seem to be any logs or errors to look at so I am at a loss. I've submitted a problem report to tech support.

8.0b is the update for the full version of Sound Forge. You want the latest update for Audio Studio, which is "Sound Forge Audio Studio 8.0a" on the Downloads page.

Do you happen to have any third party DirectX plug-ins installed? Perhaps something packaged with WinMC? One trick you can try is to open Sound Forge, and once it enters this hidden state, open Task Manager and terminate any instances of "rundll32.exe" you see on the Process page.

Once I got it downloaded and clicked on the installation package, I figured that out. So I already have the latest SFAS V8.0a.

Hmm. Not explicity. So I looked around and found DXMan which can list all installed plug-ins. I have Pinnacle Sudio 9 Plus and there are lots of Pinnacle plugins. Also a bunch of Creative* ones that come from the Sound card. Some from Sonic, and lots of others. I have no way to tell which come from 3rd parties and which would be pre-installed. How would I tell which might conflict with SFAS?

I terminated the one instance of rundll32.exe that was running, and then attempted to start SFAS -- the behavior was the same -- splash then nothing -- and there is no rundll32.exe around. Perhaps the first one wasn't even related to SFAS.
