I recall reading somewhere cd's are recorded at 44,100, 16 bit, so what is the advantage of going to 24 or 32 bit, I understood only 16 bit will work to burn a cd that will play audio.

to put it simply, more headroom and better quality. Then when you dither down to 16 it's an all around better sound.
