better late than never... SIGN ME THE F*CK UP!!! I'm getting a control surface the day I download the update. A couple of questions though: 1. why didn't I get asked for the beta test (hell...groove cloning was practically my idea...for real) 2. can vst effects now can use midi/control surface automation? 3. how are the audio tracks named and are they saved as acidized/beatmapped files or just one shots? 4. is it possible to "print effects-to-tape" while recording? (recording a live guitar track while using amplitube or a vocal track while using a vocoder) this announcement has made my day, thanks guys!!! |

...after years of bitching and griping from so many users (now so many ex-users) that this was what we wanted! I didn't upgrade to Acid 5 from 4 specifically because of the lack of linear tracking. If it's up to par on performance, I now probably will get back on Acid's upgrade bandwagon. Thanks Sony and especially Peter Haller + Acid team for making this happen. Angels |

http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/news/ShowRelease.asp?ReleaseID=614 This gets even better! Unbelievably, they're even calling it a DAW at last. Amazing, after all these years of lobbying from all of us. Worth it in the end! If this is really as it looks: old ACID paradigm + Vegas (audio) + new MIDI... Then this is gonna be one hell of an app. Loads of questons to come from me soon, and I'm sure everyone else too. That press release is very, very encouraging. Ben |

So, is it just my (bad) memory, but didn't ACID used to have multi-track recording? My brother used to use an older version of it, then tried the new demo and complained that he couldn't add a live track along with his loops. I tried to defend ACID claiming they never had that, but realized I had to be wrong. His old songs were created entirely in ACID. So, they pulled the feature only to add it back in a couple releases later, and they make it sound ground-breaking? I'm not complaining. I love Vegas to death and use it almost daily. I'll probably buy ACID if it could solve all my audio desires. Hopefully they added the ability to right click a stereo track and choose which channel to use for the audio (both, left, right, or mix) like you can in Vegas. |

PumiceT, as far as i know, going back to ACID 2, it has never had multitrack recording. You could play back as many tracks at once as you wished, but you could only record one new track at a time. Of course, you could create a recording of multiple tracks by adding them one at a time until you've recorded them all. |

This is great news! Sony seem to have ticked nearly every box. I can't wait. My only moan is those 20 DX effects. There long in the tooth aren't they? I'd hoped for a few synths and some posh fx like cut down versions of the Oxford line (one can dream. ) I'll wait and see because they may add a few more things by March. If you're listening Sony how about some nicer fx and even a few innovative synths? Well done on the rest though. The best has to be different clips on the same track followed by in-line midi. Roll on March! |

I think it will save midi edits. The in-line midi editing will mean there will be the capability to chop and change midi as desired. I imagine that both midi clips and linear midi tracks will be able to exist side by side as in Sonar. At least this is what I hope. |

From digitalproducer.com. Notice the retail price. Sony also bowed the latest version of ACID Pro 6 at NAMM, saying the new version includes major upgrades that transform ACID Pro 6 into a full-featured professional digital audio and MIDI workstation. It will include both multi-track recording and a MIDI sequencing environment. Scheduled for March availability, ACID Pro 6 will retail for US $399.95. |

Wow, you loose power in a winter storm for a few days and Sony announces a new version of your favorite software. ;-) ACID Pro 6 looks like it’s going to be totally awesome. It seems Sony has listened very carefully to its customers and finally turned ACID into a full fledged DAW and MIDI Sequencer. No more “What midi sequencer should I rewire ACID too?” questions. (I’m gonna miss them... sniff... sniff...) ;-) It’s also good to see that the reaction from the community has been very positive. With the power of a full MIDI sequencer and multi-track DAW behind the simplicity and clean lines of the ACID user interface, this is going to be the audio app to content with. Bravo Sony! ~jr |

This is dope indeed, but the thing that isn't clear to me is if you are now able to record automation via a control surface. Can you ride the faders and have Acid create an envelope (volume, panning, wet/dry etc) based on your input as the song plays or is this just for mixing and controlling plug-ins offline? |

"Can you ride the faders and have Acid create an envelope (volume, panning, wet/dry etc) based on your input as the song plays " If you aren't able to do this, then it shouldn't be called "control surface support." drbam |

Was thinking of getting an Echo Layla and Mackie but the ProjectMix I/O does both for less. Does anyone here have one and can comment on how good it is? How are the mic-pres? etc. ~jr |

Just as many of us had hoped! Vegas' recording, editing, and mixing capabilities combined with Acid. It will be a real time saver for me not to have to transfer ideas from Acid to Vegas. They could've stopped there and made many people happy, but they also added: "a new high-performance multi-threaded audio engine, we've reengineered ACID Pro 6 software to perform faster and more efficiently not only on dual-core and multiprocessor systems, but also on single-CPU machines providing more efficient track buffering for higher performance at lower latencies" and I love the new project sections feature! man, could it be any easier to arrange and rearrange song structures? I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully it will get a proper beta testing and come to the market strong and clean. I know there are a lot of people who will be looking for that. |

In Vegas you can ride the faders and it creates tons of envelope keyframes as you do so. Then there is a function called "Thin Envelope" which then adjusts these hundreds of keyframes down to more manageable envelope curve. It probably will work the same way. |

from Mix's NAMM blog. The new version of Acid is here. Sony Acid Pro 6 is not your older brother’s loop arranger. While it can still do everything from versions past, Acid Pro 6 is now a full-fledged DAW, including multitrack recording of audio and video. Other new features include unlimited numbers of audio files per track, automatic crossfades between those files, punch-in loop recording for multiple takes of audio or MIDI and much more. The bonus inclusion of a version of Native Instruments Kompakt sampler with an exclusive 2GB sound library means that this release will make March (when it’s due) a little hotter than usual. |

I wouldn't be surprised if this Acid6 annoucement was pushed out quickly, especially since the new Adobe Audition 2.0 is now available. Remember that Audition is also a multi-track editor and also features looping and a lot of the functionality that Acid does (less MIDI). It's not just a Sound Forge-like audio editor. It's kind of like a combination of Sound Force, Vegas, and ACID. The demo track that came with it was very impressive and it included a PDF that described the process they went through, talent they used and a bunch other tidbits about how it was put together. >It's kind of like a combination of Sound Force, Vegas, and ACID Well, I'm not quite sure about that one ^^. In fact, it's a great audio editor, with outstanding DSP effects (reverbs are unbeatable). But for the multitrack part, well that's just a beginning. So I don't think you can say that it's a "combination" of Vegas and Acid. |

I can virtually guarantee that is not the case. The probably have had that planned for months. NAMM is the place to announce a product. The product team probably has the date circled a year ago. Then the question is "What can we have at NAMM?" It's even better if you introduce a NAMM, but Sony didn't do that. They obviously still have stuff to work in the product, but they announced the for-sure features of Acid 6. Sony was giving little hints months ago that Vegas 6 was going to be a big release. Sony's Dave Chaimson mentioned this at a meeting of the NYC Vegas Users Group in November. He also said that Sony was doing it's biggest loops promotion in 2006. If you go to sony.com/freeloops you can register for a Sony Music calendar with a disk of loops. He said it was going to be their biggest mailing ever. Notice how none of the folks under NDA are speaking? This is probably written into their NDA. I bet they knew there was going to be a NAMM announcement, but that this would not release them from the NDA. I bet the dates are stated in the NDA. |

The way many NDA’s work is that you can’t disclose anything that is not public. Since Sony publicly announced the release of ACID Pro 6 with a feature list at NAMM, it is perfectly acceptable for someone under NDA to acknowledge ACID Pro 6 exists and that the announced features exist. They still cannot elaborate on how the features work since that was not publicly discussed in the announcement. So those who are under NDA are still bound by the NDA to not disclose anything that isn’t public until a downloadable release is available. ~jr Message last edited on1/25/2006 10:59:28 PM byJohnnyRoy. |

I'll pass on the loops and just pay for the download. I've never been very impressed with the sounds that come with any of the hosts I've bought. I hope Sony includes midi FX or MFX capability like Cubase and Sonar. I often find them very useful. There are some good third party MFX available.
