Subject:SF8b crashes when using certain VST-plugins

I know, not any vst-effect is "good enough" to run perfect with any host. But I experienced a few too much crashes with Soundforge8 (latest update) with some plugins that work without a fault with other hosts (like EnergyXT, Tracktion2, and as friends tried with for example Adobe audition1.5). Now I'd wish I could use the plugins from a very good coder, Eleveyta, with my soundforge. Would it be possible to check WHY plugins like "Extra boy pro", "convo boy" "Space boy" and "FreEQboy" do not work properly in Soundforge? There are some others too, for example from Voxengo the "crunchessor". With the Eleveyta-plugs Soundforge "freezes", whereas with the crunchessor I get an error-message that the plugin could not run with Soundforge (whereas it can in most other hosts).
Maybe an update could deal with those problems? The fault doesn't seem to be connected with my machine (AMD Athlon3000+, 1,5GB Ram, M-Audio2496, WinXP home), as other users have problems with the mentioned plugins too.
The effects are really useful ones, and I'd love to be able to use them in Soundforge. Thank you.

Just a quick suggestion...try using the demo version of Wavelab (download from steinberg.net), if they work within this environment then perhaps it is the way that SF8 interacts with the VST. I am aware that Sony Sound Forge did not implement true VST 2.0 compliant system.

I know that Wavelab (since I use it) handles all my VST's without any issues.

Thanks,
Kevin

The Voxengo Cruchessor allows up four inputs and Sound Forge currently has issues with that. I have a fix in mind for future versions. In the meantime, you should be able to use it on mono files in Sound Forge 8.0b with no problems.

As for the Eleveyta plug-ins, I have no problems with WideBoy, but do reproduce the hangs on ExtraBoy under a variety of conditions that point more to an issue inside the plug-in UI (particularly their graph drawing) than anything else. It appears those others listed have similar graphic intensive elements in their editors, as well.

I believe I have found a workaround for this particular issue (it has nothing to do with VST "compliance", btw), but please also drop a line to the plug-in manufacturer. They should at least be made aware of the issue. I can provide further details if they care.

In the meantime, you may have better luck trying to use these in the plug-in chainer rather than modally.

TC Native Bundle Plugins and TC Powercore plugins seem to do this same thing. Presets resetting to default on playback, blue-screen crashes, audio hanging and stuttering, controls not functioning properly. These same problems also reside in ACID Pro 5.

To alleviate Powercore presets resetting on playback, use the host's Preset combo box to change presets instead of the preset controls in the plug-in itself. I believe this is also likely the root of "controls not functioning properly", but you'd have to elaborate on that. This and other VST issues will be resolved in future updates.

Other than that, the Powercore works quite well for me. Blue screens and audio hanging stuttering point to some type of hardware conflict (as mentioned in some of your other posts).

Thank you for your reply, I've been trying to get someone to talk to me on the Powercore issue.

A specific example of the "controls not functioning properly" thing I was talking about:

In Filtroid, if you click on the attack slider for the envelope and try to move it up or down, it will move only a millimeter or so and then stop functioning. Yet if you click somewhere in the series/parallel switch and hold down the mouse button while moving the mouse, all four ADSR envelope contols will operate moving up and down all at once. Crazy.

Also, I noticed that with the audio hanging and crashes, they don't happen as often if you keep all the Powercore plugins in no-latency mode. I think this issue may lie somewhere in the plugin latency compensation (I can't get proper sync on a few various plugins in ACID, such as some of the PSP plugins).

Just downloaded the demo for Cubase SX and tried out all the plugins i've been having difficulties with. In Cubase, these plugins all function perfectly with no sync loss or stability issues, so guess we can rule out hardware troubles.
