Sony Vegas at NAB

mark-woollard wrote on 1/7/2006, 6:51 AM
I'm going to NAB this year for the first time since 1994 and will be checking out HD developments, especially NewTek's VT NLE which until this year, had been my "one and only" NLE.

I got a Z1 this year and love it. I bought Vegas/HD Connect/Magic Bullet Editors v2.0 to work with HDV am quite happy with the results. Of course I'd like to enhance rendering performance with a new system and video card but will likely wait till after NAB.

What kind of presence will Sony Vegas have at NAB? Is there anything in particular I might look for?

What was it like last year? Did Sony Vegas users get together?

Thanks

I just searched the archive and found references to a VASST/Vegas party Tuesday night last year. Sounds like fun and a chance to meet some of the folk on this forum. Will that be repeated this year?

No announcements for NAB of any kind have been made, but suffice it to say that for folks that were there (at NAB) last year, the goal on all fronts is to top it significantly with regards to Vegas.

NAB is usually the approximate launch time for new developments regarding the program.

Judgiung by he silence of the known beta testers, i would say its safe to assume that most of the testers are testing and not posting...

Going with the trends of the way Vegas has been launched each year, i would say its safe to assume V7 will either be announced or launched at this years NAB...

I could just be talking out of my ass too..

Hello,

Pathlight, i like you came from the Newtek VT edit platform.. I have now sold my VT system, and just use Vegas..And have never looked back.. I attend every NAB, and i can vouch that Sony will have Vegas Presence, and also there are usually classes which Sony presents which are quite good and free !!!
And last year Vegas users had a great party, and there was a real buzz surrounding this product and its users..

Those who know will not say, and those who say do not know.

And a prediction of the future is alsways unsecure...

Well last year was my first NAB and it was quite an experience!
So again this year we'll be making the long haul over the Pacific, I'll be trying to get into Vegas a few days early to do some local site seeing, might even hire a car for drive into the desert, just worried how I'll cope driving on the wrong side of the road but hey if I can edit NTSC that should be a piece of cake. Then again a motocycle might be more fun, been decades since I've riden a Harley, learnt to ride on one with a sidecar, 42 WLA, what a beast!
The Vegas party was great, many thanks to Sony and the VASST team for making it happen. Just one suggestion about the training sessions, they need to be more conspicuous. I know that makes no difference to all of us here, we don't care if it's down a corridor and around a few corners but I doubt if anyone that wasn't a Vegas user ever knew about it so the overall impression from non Vegas attendees was that Vegas wasn't there.

Most definitly, and once in the desert there is no wrong side of the road, rent a jeep and have a blast,, anytime I go to vegas we always go to the desert as a break from giving cash to the casino.

V7 or whatever it will be called , will be released at NAB, whether its ready or not! IMHO

If you're a climber, Red Rocks is just a few minutes outside Vegas - with some world class routes of all grades. Darryl

Bob, (and everyone else)
Trust me....:-) Vegas will be very visible this year at the conference. That's all I can say for now, but it will be noticed. Lotsa people working their backsides off starting this last week at CES to make it happen.
NAB 2006 will certainly be memorable in a big way, not just because of Vegas, of course....but if you can make it, it's going to be one of the best ever IMO. VASST will be there a week early for anyone coming in early to Vegas.
Word of advice; REGISTER FOR YOUR HOTEL NOW. We booked our NAB rooms yesterday, and there weren't as many rooms as we'd have expected. You might have to pay a deposit, but it's easy to cancel a couple weeks before the show if you must, but danged hard to get a room more than 2 months out from the show. CES is where everyone plans their NAB presence. CES ends tomorrow.

Bob, you got it wrong. We drive on the RIGHT side here...

:O)

A sightseeing flight over Grand Canyon is a genuine life experience if taken not long after sunrise or not long before sunset (mid day the light is flat with few shadows and the colors aren't very interesting).

But heck, Las Vegas alone has a lot to see. Haven't been to the Luxor in many years, but if they still have their flying carpet ride, it is very worthwhile. Don't stay there though, at least not if you'd like to get any kind of room service (there can be a 4-day wait... Really.). Lots more odd stuff (real machine gun shooting, etc.) that I don't think exists in too many other places.

We did the copter ride INTO the Grand Canyon last year, I'd highly recommend it. We travelled with a a family from Columbia, that made it even more interesting and it was our first ride in a copter and a limo as well, sure earned me a few points with the wife. Left McCarran at sunrise and landed half way down the Canyon, definately worth the money, company was Sundance, clean, well maintained, comfortable aircraft.

Our family was in Las Vegas for a few days last week. We drove in from Phoenix AZ and had a chance to take the 1-hour tour of Hoover Dam. I've seen it before, but the new tour center is remarkable. They are building a bypass road about 1/4 mile downstream from the dam (nervous about trucks full of explosives on the top of the dam) and they are just beginning to build the enormous span across the river.

The tour took us into the generator hall on the Nevada side, and only 2 of the 8 generators were running. Guide said in the summer, all of them are running full-tilt.

Had a chance to see one of the nameplates for a generator: output voltage 16,500v, output current 3,000A. A rather substantial piece of hardware.
