Subject:Dynamic Distortion and Gain/Cutoff

I previously worked with a program called Music and Video Maker 6 by Magic, I believe. I know I'm probably using the wrong terminology here, so do forgive me.

I'm looking to achieve an "acid" effect on my loops. I love using Fatboy slim as an example: the beginning of his songs "Acid 8000" and "Kalifornia" as well as the extro to "Push the tempo" have the effect that I'm looking for. I'll do my best to describe it. I believe it's related to the "gain" and "cutoff" knobs featured in the Magic software: it yields a dry, acidic, cutting sound on one end of the knob and a muffled, blurred sound at the other end. I would like to avoid applying this effect "statically" to an entire track; rather, I would like to have it shift as the song progresses. Can anyone help me with this?

Thank yous!

Sounds like automated effects envelopes would suit you well in this situation. ACID Pro is the only version of ACID that has this feature.

Thank you for your assistance on both of my topics. In regards to automated effects envelopes...I have been tinkering around with built-in AcidFX on some of my tracks, but was a little dissatisfied. Once I have found an effect I like, e.g. a once-per-beat phaser w/ 50% distortion, that effect is applied to the entire track. Is there any way, in Acid Music Studio 6, to change the level of these effects (for example, slide the distortion up and down) throughout the piece, or would that require something like Acid Pro 6?

Thanks!!

No, as mD pointed out, automation envelopes requires ACID Pro 5. (ACID Pro 6 is not released yet)

Sounds like a filter sweep to me.
