Subject:Batch converter + Encode/Save as mp3 fails...

(btw this is in Sound Forge 8.0b) I just tried to use the batch converter to batch encode a few .frg project files and they all failed, although I could save to mp3 fine using the manual render as or save as. Any ideas why this does not work? Something to do with sf project files maybe? /VJ Message last edited on12/25/2005 11:45:24 PM byRyan Jaeger. |

Since I rarely use the SF Batch Converter, I won't be able to address your problem directly. I'm not sure if it works with project files directly. I can suggest a few free alternatives, however. The first is CDex, probably my favorite because of configurability and ease of use. I use it with LAME for lots of control over my .mp3 output. It is primarily a ripper with lots of conversion options as well. The second is dbPowerAmp, I like it a lot because of support for a large number of codecs and stability. There is also a companion ripper. The third, which I use when I need really fast batch conversion to mp3 (I recently used it to compact over 100GB of .wav files to .mp3) is Mpeg Suite, which works much faster using its built-in codec than any other converter. The reason: it is based on the older bare-bones Xing encoder which doesn't need to do a lot of thinking to do its job. If you're doing high-quality music work I would stick with LAME or Fraunhofer however. Message last edited on12/30/2005 11:42:06 AM bymusicvid10. |

The batch converter currenly supports only media files, not .frg project files...and the free alternatives listed by musicvid certainly won't handle .frg either ;-). I will enter this functionality as a feature request, but for now you'll have to render .frg projects manually. J. |

**...and the free alternatives listed by musicvid certainly won't handle .frg either ;-).** I certainly did not mean to imply that any other converter would work with Sound Forge project files. My apology if I did not make this clear enough in my first reply. I offered these suggestions only to make the OP aware of other utilities that support third party .dll's which may provide alternative functionality and convenience in certain instances. If you are trying to use MP3 for batch encodes, make sure that you have registered for an MP3 license first. Use File | Save As, select MP3 and click Custom. From there you should be able to register. MP3 allows 20 free encodes before requiring a license for unlimited encodes. Preventing MP3 encodes from batch without an MP3 license ensures you won't get part of the way through the set before running out of free encodes. |

Thanks for the heads up! I just registered it the other night as I hit the 20 encode limit. (I usualy use ogg/wav) As for the .frg to mp3 batch feature, it couldn't hurt... Although a quick work around is to render as a wav format and batch encode from there. /RVJ |
