it seems the bleeding problem wont be fixed easily.

therefore i want to get a new sound card.

basically ill be recording guitar, vocals, and a synth into my comp. i want to make trip hop, instrumental, ambient stuff.

i have acid studio 6.0.

what sound card would be good for me?

im looking to spend 100-150.

how difficult is the process of removing and installing a soundcard?

i have a hp zv5000 laptop.

thank you,

justin

Hi Justin,

Did you read about all the soundcards I recommended to you in your other thread? What was wrong with those? It sounds like the M-Audio FastTrack USB would be perfect for your laptop, usage, and price range.

considering that "it would be difficult to recommend a card without knowing how you intent to use it" (from the previous thread)....it seemed that you havent given a true recomendation. therefore i decided to give more info concernig how i intend to use it.

OK, fair enough. When you ask a question in one thread, it probably makes sense to answer it in that same thread. I didn’t realize this new thread was a continuation of the other one.

Here is my recommendation knowing your situation. Since you are using this on a laptop, that limits your choices to PCMCIA/PC Card, Firewire, or USB interface cards (i.e., no PCI card which rules out the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 that I recommended in the previous post). There are no Firewire or PCMCIA cards for under $150 so that leaves you with USB as your only choice on a laptop.

Within USB, I still think the M-Audio FastTrack USB is your best bet. It has a ¼” phone instrument input and an XLR mic input and the quality is 24 bit/48K. In that price range there is also the M-Audio MobilePre USB, and the Line 6 TonePort UX1 USB. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these.

I don't have a notebook, so I'm not very knowledgeable in the soundcards available for them, but what about something like this?
