in-laid video (PIP) help

help…
I am trying to accomplish this task but without success…all the time, I can never get it to work properly.

Let’s say I have video on the timeline and I would like to add a picture or another instance of video in the corner or on top of the first video…I can never get the in-laid picture or video to move very far and when it does it disappears as if wiping into a black space. Please advise.

What tools are you using to accomplish this?

The wiping into black space is probably means you have moved it past the viewing area and just the background is showing. The default background in Vegas is black.

Try this. Set up two tracks of video.
In track one put the video you want in the small box
In track two put the video you want full size.
In track one use the Track Motion control.
Grab a corner of the frame and resize the video. Get it to the size you want.
Then click inside the circle and move the frame where you want it.

If you want that frame to move. Use keyframes and set a beginning position and an ending position. You can begin or end with an off-screen position.

CTJ, take a look at the first three issues of my newsletters. They cover creating PIPs in detail.

addendum...what I would like to achieve is once the PIp is on the video is be able to move the PIP anywhere (location) on top of the video or picture. Moreover, I would like to be able to remove the blocky or square edges of the PIP so as if the PIP kind of blends in or just appeared inside of the main video.

thanks in advance,

The articles tell you how to do this. For the edges, just add a border effect using the soft edge preset.

jetdv,

Your newsletters, I noticed that they are a little older, are they still accurate for Vegas 6.0c? If so, I'd love to learn more about how to do a professional PIP effect. Am I looking for Volume 1, Issue 1-3?

Thanks!

The base information for creating the PIPs is still exactly the same in Vegas 6.0c. The articles were written when Vegas 4 was current. However, the process of creating a PIP has not changed. You just have more options now (such as 3D track motion!)
