Is this possible to do? I have a CD which is out of print. I want to make a copy of it for someone to learn the music (full orchestra) for an upcoming performance. The music from some of the tracks actually run from one track to another. When I rip the CD with Windows Media Player and then burn it, those tracks have a three second or so period of silence as the track is changing. Here's what I'm hoping to do: 1) Copy the disk without the pauses, because the music is continuous from track to track 2) Track one is only supposed to last about 45 seconds, but the original recording has track one lasting over 3 minutes. Can I change the length of the track? I've got Audio Studio 7.0, and have downloaded trial versions of 8.0 as well as Sound Forge 8.0. I don't anticipate doing this on a regular basis, so I'd really rather not spend over $200 for the upgrade to Sound Forge. Thanks. |

In Sound Forge you can extract audio (rip) into one continuous file. Then you can set up regions (tracks) however you like. Here is the problem - In Sound Forge you can only burn one track at a time. And it inserts space between tracks. To avoid this you will need to use CD Architect. It allows you to convert regions to track markers. And to eliminate space between tracks. You can set as many or as few (including zero) seconds between tracks as you desire. Greg |

Ahead's Nero will read SF wave file markers and regions if you or someone you know has Nero. You will need to burn the disc as "Disc-at-Once" to avoid the 2 sec. space between tracks. For detailed instructions see my previous post on the SF forum. http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=3&MessageID=245626 Message last edited on12/18/2005 3:56:53 PM byrraud. |

Thanks to both of you for your input...I don't have CD Architect or Nero. So the question is, which should I choose? What are the benefits of one over the other??? |

CD Architect gives you much more control over how the songs are burned to the cd. You can can add effects, manually fade or crossfade, and you can chop parts of the sound you don't want burned, amongst other things. Nero is much more basic when audio cds are concerned, it basically just burns a selection of wave files in a row (with or without pause between tracks). So, if you're mainly going to copy existing audio cds then Nero will be sufficient (it's cheaper than CD Architect). If you're planning on burning for example audio cds of your own songs, then you might want to consider CD Architect, so that you can get your music on the cd exactly as you want it. Thanks ATP -- sounds like CD Architect has a lot more functionality. I was leaning towards jumping from Audio Studio 7.0 to Sound Forge 8.0...the "need" for CD Architect seems to help me lean in that direction! |
