I have SoundForge Studio 8a.

I am digitizing some old LPs and cassettes, and saving them to MP3. (pretty normal and standard work).

One of the reasons I bought SoundForge Studio was to remove
pops, crackle, hiss, humm, etc.

I don't see any reall help files for doing this. (yes, 60Hz hum can be removed with a simple keyhole filter). But what about all the rest?

There are stand-alone products (sound soap 2) that do this. But what about plug-ins in Studio?

BTW, does the preset manager work in Studio? I downloaded some filters in preset format from the web, but the manager says seems to always list them as uninstalled, and I can't "choose my product".

The full version of Sound Forge and a copy of the Noise Reduction plug-in are what you need. It also includes some nice filters and such that are tailored for vinyl transfer. I don't believe studio supports these, and the cost difference is, in a word, large.

Take a look at Tools->Audio Restoration and the associated help material.

As of version 8.0, Sound Forge Studio no longer limits you to Express FX. You are free to use any DirectX or VST plug-in, including Sony Noise Reduction, should you decide to purchase it.

As for the PM issue, please provide more details as to the plug-ins and files you are attempting to import and specific repro steps. Also might want to try tech support.
