Hello,

I just got a call, from one of my better clients, with an impossible request... They want me to take a powerpoint presentation they have and convert it so it becomes a sequence which will play on a DVD.. I do not much if any experience with Power Point.. i believe there is a way to export from there to an image sequence .. Is this possible?/ Any suggestions?? I do not even have the Power point progrm..
Also they have a large Flash presentation that they want also to be on the DVD, I have no idea what size it is, nor have i had much experience taking a Flash file and converting it to something that DVD Architect will accept ?? AVI, Mpegg2 ??

And they want all of this done in a 24 hour period.. Not sure i will be able to complete this task.. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.,,

( I do have Vegas 6,After Effects 6.5, and Sorenson Squeeze at my disposale..)

There was a fairly recent post in this forum on Powerpoint to video, Search should bring it up.
Not sure about Flash, though.

Here's an EASY/CHEAP/FAST way to do it.

Get them to bring you a laptop with S-Vid out, and then just have the laptop put it's display out the S-Vid out on the laptop, and capture that into vegas, and pop it on a DVD, They could even record a narration to go with it so that it's all inclusive. Then you're good to go. Quality can vary based on Output of laptop. (this method will allow for keeping the animation, Otherwise, just have them "export slide as jpeg" and then use those and transition between them, but this will not allow for animation.)

As for the flash - you can do the same thing, sort of.

If there's more time, you can order a VGA - S-Vid adapter and do it that way too.

Hope that helps

Hello,

Thanks for the quick replies..They sprung this thing on me today, with no time to prep.. I normally do Video or photo work.. I have never really been a Powerpoing person.
Anyway not sure if the Laptop and S-VHS solution will be possible.. but good to know.. So if they export the powerpoint, it will lose all transitions and animation?? Correct? i guess that makes sense as it becomes just a series of stills..

Thanks

There is also a product called Camtasia that will capture the powerpoint slide show to .avi. I have found it is a processor hog though and getting smooth framerates is much easier using frigid's method mentioned above. I have an S-video out of my main computer that I run into a mini-dv cam, record the powerpoint then capture it back. It works wonderfully and retains the full frame rate.

There are some other problems for which to look out. I have had clients bring me PowerPoint presentations which have in no way been designed with video in mind. The biggest problems have been too much text on the slides using video "unfriendly" fonts and small text besides. The slides have also often used thin lines which also cause issues. The other problem is that whoever designed the presentation had never even heard of "safe title area" and, therefore, didn't take that into consideration. More often than not, I have just ended up recreating a "video friendly" version of the PowerPoint presentation using Vegas.
