Is there going to be a PSP Media Manager forum since I've purchased the software from this site? Thanks, djspark |

I vouch for that big time. I'm actually surprised there isn't one. BTW - try searching also, there's alot of PSP topics in Vegas - Video. |

> BTW - try searching also, there's alot of PSP topics in Vegas - Video. That makes sense because you can now create PSP Video files with Vegas 6.0c. I’m thinking of picking up a copy of this for myself. How do you guys like the software? ~jr |

> How do you guys like the software? I wanted to post this in a forum dedicated to PSP Media Manager but as there aren't one, here goes (I suppose it can be moved into such a forum at a later time). And yes, I noticed in the Vegas - video forum that Vegas has a PSP export feature when I was looking for a way to create thumbnails for PSP .mp4 video. But if you mostly want to export pictures, videos, music, feeds and easily backup the PSP's memory stick, then the much more affordable PSP Media Manager is the way to go. But I still wonder why this software (1.0a build 193 at the time of writing) hasn't got a tool for simple things like creating thumbnails. Furthermore I have experienced difficulty in getting the manager to initialize video files encoded with DivX. For the record, PMM doesn't support the XviD codec, according to Sonys Knowledgesbase and they recommend uninstalling XviD, if there's issues with DivX files. The weird thing is that I've been able to encode DivX 6.0 with the PMM right after the installation. But then after upgrading to DivX 6.1, PMM wouldn't read the DivX files. So I re-installed DivX 6.0 which previously worked with PMM - but now it doesn't. Even though every trace of the XviD codec is removed from the system, as tech support recommends. This is confusing and corrupts my first impression of the PSP Media Manager. When you really think about it, this is actually the official PSP Media Manager, so I had hoped that no such hassle would arise when encoding video. Currently I'm about to follow up on a possible solution for the DivX problem provided by Sony's Technical Support. Apart from the DivX/XviD codec problem, I think the manager has alot of potential. I like the simple and cool user interface similar to the PSP. Still one can hope that future builds will include some more functionality which would really make the software as good as it deserves to be. At the moment I simply miss some more control over the pre-processing of files before encoding to PSP. Like alot of other people, I would very much like to see the following features implemented in PSP Media Manager: "Cropping" Why? There's no point in encoding black borders from a video source, as this wasted space could easily be used for more overall quality video. And PSP automatically inserts its own borders. Also, black borders from source video looks bright and "out of place" on the PSP display contrary to PSP mediaplayer's natural black borders (when you for example have cropped a 2.35:1 Wide Screen video and PMM encodes this edited source into a 368x208 Wide Screen resolution for the PSP ). A simple cropping tool like in Nero Recode 2 would be greatly appreciated in PSP Media Manager. "Subtitles" Why? A possibility to inject subtitles into the .mp4 container or forced subtitles when encoding would be greatly appreciated by alot I think. At the moment there is an external workaround with other software but it's too time consuming, and I think everyone will agree on the fact that this would be a very practical option to have in PSP Media Manager. "Shutdown computer after encoding" Why? Just an effective option if you have a long encoding job. "Better DivX/XviD support" Why? Because of the PMM's potential problem with initializing DivX files. This can result in some unnecessary hassle. "Filters" Why? Just some simple ways to optimize the video output like the 'colors', 'sharpen', 'contrast', 'brightness'...etc. "Save video in local directory" Why? PSP Media Manager encodes directly to PSP. I think everyone would like to be able to save an encoded file elsewhere like in a local directory. Even though there's a "Backup PSP when connected" option, not everyone has memory sticks with enough space for encoded files. It would be nice if you could encode a file and export to PSP later. "Mac OS support" Why? Just so people with Mac OS systems can have fun using the software. Anyway, just my two cents for the time being. Message last edited on1/7/2006 2:02:04 PM byAPu. |
