Subject:Acid MUSIC STUDIO 6 won't start after install

I just installed Sony Acid MUSIC STUDIO 6. When I click on the icon to start the program, the green splash screen shows up with my name and serial number and nothing else happens. The computer freezes! The cpu usage jumps to 100% and I can't do anything but reboot. Any ideas?

What have you changed lately? My guess is there is a VST plug-in that is causing it to hang. Try renaming your "C:\Program Files\Vstplugins" folder to something else (i.e., add a .xxx to it) and see if that helps. (or if you are using another VST folder, rename that) If that doesn't fix it, rename it back. If you hold down the Shift key while you load ACID it will reset all of the preferences to the defaults but sometimes that’s what’s needed to get it started again.

Thanks a bunch! That did the trick.

Great! Now for the hard and tedious part... figuring out which VST was causing the error. What you should do is make a new "C:\Program Files\Vstplugins" folder, and start putting the plug-ins back in one by one and starting ACID each time until ACID doesn’t start. The last one you put in was causing the problem. Remove it and add the rest back in. Then post here which one it is so Sony can see if it’s a problem with ACID or the VST.

JohnnyRoy -

Should I empty the folder and start placing them in 1 by 1? If so, the contents of the renamed Vstplugins folder are Notes, and Xpress. Within the Xpress folder are what appear to be three plugins (B4XpressVST.dll, FM7XpressVST.dll, and Pro-53XpressVST.dll). An empty Vstplugins folder was already there (created when I renamed the original one, I suppose). I added each one (1 at a time) and tried to start Acid Music Studio 6 after each addition. Same result after each addition, 100% CPU usage, had to re-boot. I went back to the renamed folder and put things back, and all was OK. If I should attempt this in another manner please advise. Feel free to e-mail me.
