DVD+R DL Burning

Like others posting on this site, I have not been able to successfully
burn a DVD+R DL disk. I am using a LaCie external drive and it can burn a single layer disk created in DVDA3. The recorder came with Roxio software and I was able to burn a duel layer with that software, but it was very jerky. Anyone successfully burning dual layered disks with DVDA3 and another recorder...how about the Sony units?

I have had no problems burning DL+ Rs with DVDA3 uisng a Plextor 716A. Also, I only use Verbatim DLs. You did not mention what problems you were having. Are you sure your external drive can keep up with the buring data rate and buffer underrun is kicking in? Set stand alone players don't like to play 'one track at a time' created by buffer underrun correction.

Thank you for your reply Ed B. I render my Vegas 6.0 project to an Mpeg-2 file. I prepare it in DVDA3 (takes about 4 hours). I hit burn and it suggests where dl break will be and I ok the choice. It then begins burning, but never shows progress...just keeps running. After about 45 minutes the disk pops out and I get a message saying the disk was not appropriate. It is a Memorex dl disk.

I had a lot of trouble burning DL with DVDA to my Pioneer 110. After reading many forum postings I bought RecordNow (I think DeLuxe is the cheapest version that will do DL) for $30 to do the burning. No problems burning +R DL since. I just drag and drop prepared folders onto RecordNow and click Burn.

Like one post said, DVDA is an awesome authoring program, but as as a burner its a great coaster toaster.
