I have been doing ac3 rendering in Vegas 5 for a while succesfully. I have tried several times to render a sound track to a musical and it makes it about 5+ seconds to long. Therefore action is out of sync. It looks fine in the timeline, but deforms when it is rendered. Any thoughts?
I can tell it is out of sync when I load it into Architect 2.
Is therre any way of looking at an ac3 file?

Just solved my own problem. I had started avi file render 6 seconds later. so that I would have a picture as the first frame.

I read of a lot of problems that people are having making surround sound videos. This is what I do when starting with a mono or stereo track.

I make 6 mono tracks from the source. If sereo, making them left and right.
Turn on AC3 in properties. I filter out the low and high frequencies in the center channel, add reverb to the rear channels. Turn on the HFE, and mostl important, double click on all the extra speakers to turn them off in the speaker boxes at the begining of the time line. Panning effect can be achieved by using the volume level on each channel to have sound present or not and wether it is heard. Important,, Do not leave gaps in audio , bring the vlolumn level down.
Then render it to ac3, and render the video to avi. That way I can optimize the compression when I make the DVD.

Hmm, that sounds interesting, going to give that a try on my newest project. I had a feeling part of my problem getting sound to the correct place in the 5.1 space was due to my using almost exclusively stereo source material.
Going to be a bit of a pain messing with left and right volumes simultaniously on pans though.
