Not Viscosity, no...has some similar attributes, but not very close at all. Could be some of the Canadian boys that built Viscosity had a hand in this though, but I doubt it.

Here's a Viscosity screenshot if you're interested in the comparison.

So OK, it looks interesting and I'd imagine the Madison guys wouldn't be selling it if it was a dog but as there's no try before you buy path and a dearth of real info about it on this site I'm hoping someone can provide some more info, DSE seems to know a bit about it, anymore info?

Bob.

This is actually a rewrite of Newtek's Aura program. Aura was and still is included with Newtek's Video Toaster. I'm not sure if the guys from Bauhaus Software purchased the license from Newtek or wrote the original code, then created Mirage.

Cool, Kelly.
Is that a sneak preview for some contest coming up?
:)

I saw and played a bit with this program at SIGGRAPH.

Thought it was super nice for 2D animation done the traditional (hand-drawn) way, as well as drawing cartoons.

The basic concept is a program that feels good for those used to working with natural media.

It does seem a bit out of place on the Sony website, perhaps they were seeking something Motion-like (which this really isn't)?

In fact, Mirage was created by the same team than newtek's Aura which was a update of their famous amiga paint program TvPaint.

www.tvpaint.fr

it's a good tool, very useful in 3d, there was low price offer for people having Lightwave.
Seeing Mirage on a Sony website is maybe a good news, is they do the same low price policies for vegas owners....

edit: like Vegas, it support a lot of codecs in import/export, and you have a real time preview on a external monitor via DV output.
I use it to edit lightwave UV maps and add 2D effects on video, I think the most useful things about Mirage, is that you can work on separate fields just in one click, I use this for paint gun flame for example.

If you want to create cartoon, the fill in tool respect gradient in your draw wihout let them in white, it mix them wiht you fill in color.

you can try a 30 day demo on
