Subject:importing files and compression

hey everyone, i had a quick ques. i am trying to import some files into soundforge but it just wont let me. no error message comes up to say why its just nothing happens when i try to import the file in. i think it is because it is to full of crap. for example. the bit rate is 4608kps , audio sample size is 24bit, and audio sample rate is 96. and i would change thee settings in soundforge but i cant get them in there to change.
i was wondering if anyone has any solutions. i think i need to compress them and if so does anyone know what application i should best use.
