Subject:Off topic : good bass vsti ?

Hello,

i was wondering if anyone knows a good vsti or standalone to create basslines ? I'm using Trilogy from Spectrasonics but i find it hard to make heavy bassline with high velocity (I use it for house like tracks). Anyway, does anyone knows a good software to create groovy basslines ?

thanks in advance :)

I'm not sure how heavy it is, but you might take a look at the Liquid Bass from Uebershcall. I have a demo of the Liquid Sax and it is a pretty cool concept. luces

I thought Trilogy could do anything you could imagine? Well, what about one of the Minimoog emulations? The Minimoog is a great bass synth.

yes, Tirlogy is good ... but it's lacking velocity and i can't get the sound to be loud enough without saturation ..

Try Triangle, it's free.

Also, although I don't make House myself, remember those tunes you hear on the radio/in the clubs have been mixed & mastered using well-equipped facilities operated by professionals. If your tunes don't stand up to them (in your view) it doesn't mean that your's are no good.

Try some of the loops made by PLP. They are very fat - some of the best I've ever heard and also very inexpensive. They have their ear to the ground and their samples are very uptodate and fresh for the dancefloor.

I own Minimonsta and Arturias Minimoog. As someone else in this thread mentioned they can produce excellent trouser flapping bass. I also have the Powercore Virus which makes some wonderful bass sounds. I think many of the analogue VSTi emulations can produce big bass sounds now days. It depends on what sound you're after because FM synths can produce fat bass as well. There's no need to spend lots of money on one particular synth IMO. It's probably more effective to try to master what you already own.

I think the secret to a big bass sound without overwhelming the mix is eqing to carve out space for the bass, compression to fatten it up and limiting to tame it. A bit of delay can give bass some presence. Also try editing the midi data or use a midi fx to vary the note length and velocity to give the pattern some variation. Some musicians seem to get Trilogy to sound huge. I'm sure it's possible with effects and programming. I try to make sure the kick and bass are clearly separated in the mix so they both stand out.

Creating fat bass that doesn't blow the speakers isn't an exact science but it does require a bit of experimentation to get the best out of your equipment. I'll try to locate some tutorials on the internet and post the links.
