Video Capture Dilemma!

I am using Vegas 5.0d on a brand new Sony VAIO VGC-RC110G. I have a VCR connected to the front jacks (red, white, yellow) but when I go to capture video, I get this message:
device 'SMRT capture could not be opened". I know it is not the computer because I can capture in the Click to DVD program that came on the machine. Any suggestions? I appreciate any help!

So you're trying to capture video stored on a VCR?

I had a similar issue with an Adaptec capture card.
I haven't found all the details about your computer, but I think that its video capture can only work with a program designed specifically for it. In other words, your video capture card is not a generic capture card that allows any video editing program to use it.
So, you're right, it's not the computer, but it is the capture card!
If you want to use it in an application other than "Click to DVD", good luck! It's not designed for that, as far as I know!
If you want to capture to Vegas, you will have to get the card that can do it.

Yes, I have a VHS tape, and have the VCR directly connected to the computer.

Well, if you are right, that makes me kind of mad; I bought the Sony VAIO over an HP, figuring that would be my best bet to work with all my professional level Sony programs! You would think it would all work together.
