upgrading monitors -advice?

It's time to reclaim some desk space and replace the 19" Viewsonics CRT's with 1 or 2 flat panels. I currently have the G550 card. I'm thinking of getting two 19" LCD's or maybe one 21-23". It seems like I could do well (lower cost at this point) getting the two 19". What video card should I look at for this scenario? One card with dual DVI outs? Also, can I safely use extensions as my computer is noisy and want to move it away from my workspace.

I have a Tyan S2460 mobo (dual MP2000+)and 1 gig ram.

Thanks for your advice!

Primarily used for Vegas 6+ and Photoshop CS, ACID Pro, etc.

You really don't need DVI outputs. If you get some of the 19" Viewsonic monitors (LCD) that are discounted now for about $240.00 each. Your video card is OK, (I think) but then again if you have big bucks go for it.

Concerning extension cords for your monitors, be careful to choose good, reliable ones. Do NOT go with cheap ones as they would probably lead you to bad image quality; colors shifting, picture ghosting (I mean, doubling itself), etc...
Been there once ; )

Little tip, 17" and 19" monitors have the same amount of pixels (1280*1024) so unless you have bad eyesight your're only paying for bigger pixels VS more screen real estate.
I prefer having dual 17" than one 19". If you go with the 20"+ models it's another story since they usually support resolutions above 1280*1024.

Another option would be to make the second one a wide screen 16x9 monitor. Works great as a preview montior then.

I just did this very thing - I got two 19 inch Hyundai L90D+ (best by according to Toms Hardware) to replace my two 17 inch CRT Sceptres. I also got the 24 inch Dell LCD - I like the two 19 inchers for my "timeline" better because it's just so much friggin' space, 33 inches vs 24 with the dell.

Well, I guess Its more like 31.5 inches because of the bezel between the monitors...

Also I just love the look and feel of two monitors - I don't know why, it makes no sense but for some reason it just says "edit suite" to me.

I just bought 2 19' NEC Multisync LCD 1970gx monitors from tigerdirect as refurbs= approx. half off. I can't tell you how much I like them. They are great! You will need a dual dvi card for them or you can buy an adapter for one to bring it down to vga, but why?

As far as I can tell there is no difference between the two except the connectors.

I just saw that monitor and it looks great. It looks like you scored because I didn't see any more 'gx' models on Tiger Direct in the refurbished area. I'm leaning towards the Samsung 930B - like the NEC it has 8ms response and 700:1 contrast.
