Yes.

Be prepared to be blown away by the new features.

But then, if you have upgraded don't you know this already?

My bad. It won't be here until Monday according to UPS tracking. Can't wait. Actually, my wife can't wait. She just video "taped" a wedding and is using Factory to create the project and Intervideo DVD Creator to create the DVD. She picked up a Sony Handycam DCR-HC21 Digital Video Camera Recorder. It seems to take a clear video quite well. And getting the media into the computer is very easy. She doesn't do (professional) wedding videos or anything like that. Just someone had no money, so she tried it out. She was paid though through a family member, so the camera was basically free. Now, she's got the itch for new "projects". Disney trip in December, Christmas and whatever else. Also, she has Light-Scribe labeling on her nw HP, so that'll be exiting as well. Well, we're looking forward to some really cool software, and more editing. Thanks, Kirk

If you just can't wait until Monday, go ahead and download the trial version of VMS 6.0.

The trial is a "locked" full-featured version of VMS -- I think just the MPEG render is disabled. You can get started exporing and editing now, and when your boxed version comes on Monday, just enter the serial number (from the first page of your manual) into the downloaded trial, and it unlocks it to become the real deal.

You'd still need to install DVD Architect studio from the CD.

Sounds exciting Tim. Time and consciousness are not my friends until Monday night. I work until then. But, my wife will get it when I'm at work and it will be up and running by Tuesday morning latest, so long as UPS is timely. I'm actually excited myself as I can see the possiblities. My creative side needs a stroke. Thanks again. Kirk & Fran

OK ... had some time to play with MS. Very nice indeed. One challenge, though (thus far): my wife was trying to get a transition to play with every event change so we checked the help and it says to drag a transition to the beginning of the track whilst holding down the Shift key. The transitions appear on some of the events but not all. We chose the page peel, but some of the crossfades still remain and no peel on those events. Any clue? Kirk

If you want to change all the transitions you FIRST have to select all the adjoining clips you want to change. (Ctrl-a selects ALL the clips, or you can click on the first one, then hold the shift key while you click the last one in the sequence) Once you have them selected, just drag the desired transition and drop it on one of the clip junctions. The transition will be applied to all the adjoining clips. You can change the length of the applied transition in "Options |Preferences|Editing|Cut to Overlap". Apply the transitions... if you want to change the length, simply "undo", change the Cut to Overlap time and re-apply the transitions.

Thanks for the feedback. My wife has finished her video and is now rendering it to DVD. We have LightScribe on the pc, so it'll look cool. I convinced her that applying the same transition to all of the stills was probably a little redundant as the crossfades are extremely smooth and look great, too. If we wanted to have people view the video (or parts thereof), what is the best method? What is the streaming format? Am I asking the right questions? Kirk

Ok, let me rephrase the question: if I wanted to "stream" a clip from my website, what is the best (smallest) format? Any site I might have is a freebie and space is an issue. Thanks, Kirk

Depending on the length of the video, WMV at 256Kbps is a pretty decent choice. You can fit about 10 minutes into 20MB. Take a look around my video sharing site, http://www.vegasusers.com/vidshare/ and you can see what various videos at various bitrates look like.

2-pass rendering will look much better than single pass. I don't know if Movie Studio has that option though. If your video has less action consider encoding at 15fps instead of 30fps. That will allot twice as many bits for each frame so it will be correspondingly clearer and sharper.

Version 4 of VMS does not have 2-pass rendering, unless it is hidden somewhere and I have yet to trip across it. Cannot speak about version 6 - I have yet to pull the trigger on the upgrade.
