Subject:Is anyone using multi monitors?

I guess the topic says it all. I am curious as to any pros/cons with using dual monitors. I would like to be able to,at the very least, be able to have ONLY the tracks in one monitor and all of the other dockable windows in another. Is this possible? Once again, please chime in on any experiences you have with this topic. Also, please suggest any cards that you might have any comments about. Thanks, luces

You should check out the Vegas-Video forum regarding this question.
Tons of info there.
Everybody who can afford multi-monitors goes that route with Vegas.
Don't forget that Vegas and Acid are very similar in layout.

Pick up a copy of the most recent issue of EQ mag (arrived in the mail yesterday). Craig Anderton reviews a cool little app that allows you to create a dual-monitor setup on one screen. Obviously this primarily aimed at laptop users but apparently works fine on any single monitor (works best with XP/NT). I'd post the link but the mag is another part of the house right now. . .

(edit) The app is called DoubleDesktop. Here's the website address: http://fatfreesoft.com (Fat Free Software)

Dual monitors are extremely helpful. On my desktop, I keep my VST Instruments open on one monitor while my tracks are open on another. I hate using my laptop now because I miss the second monitor. Once you go duel, you’ll wonder how you every used a computer with only one monitor. ;-)

This is more than possible and once you do it, you'll wonder how you got along with only one monitor for so long! I can't imagine going back to one monitor now. Matrox dual head cards are always good. I've had mine for years and never had a problem (knock on wood).

got a 2 monitor setup here as well.

1 monitor is entirely filled with the sequencer section. the other monitor has the file explorer, track properties, mixer and event properties all neatly aligned to fill the screen. this has improved my workflow at least 200%. no more switching between panels, no more windows obstructing other windows. it's bliss. :)

oh, i have a Geforce 6800GT card, since i also play games a lot. i wouldn't get one like this if you're only interested in the dual screen option for your music software, since it's so pricey. you're better off getting a matrox card, they're made just for this purpose.

I've used two monitors for about a year now. I couldn't go back.

I wish I could use dual monitors (preferably flat-panel LCDs). I just wouldn't know where to put them; my studio monitors take up most of the space. I'd have to invest in a new desk (and a new video card).

MD: What about some flat panel LCDs that can wall mount? That may solve your problem. I have 2 17" LCDs that are on my desk and they take up so much less space than traditional monitors that it's like night and day in regards to space. Also, price out some Matrox dual head cards. They're probably less than you think.

Nothing to setup really. Just undock whatever window you like and drag to which ever monitor you prefer.

Dual monitor usage has very little to do with the software application. Windows handles it all. The only thing that is slightly weird is that maximizing a window fills only one monitor. However, if you un-maximize the window, you can then stretch ACID's entire screen across both monitors and have an extra long timeline.

Or, just undock the windows you want and drag them to the other monitor.

i cannot imagine to use acid or any other audio software with only 1 monitor :-)

for the maximizing problem.. just use ultramon.. it will handle this automaticly!
