Subject:8.0b - Plugins Won't Audition

I'm finding that many plugins won't audition selections of ANY size. Most plugins won't audition very small samples, or perhaps samples beginning with absolute (0x00) silence. A few plugins (notably iZotope) will audition but don't render the results.

Is there a thread on this issue? Auditioning small selections is very important for my post work.

Thanks,

Allen

I'm experiencing the same problem. Repair work on small selection is impossible. Click & crackle or Noise reduction just crash on auditioning. The icons on the top toolbar flicker and the sound is choppy. I posted a message yesterday. No answer as of today. For the time being, I'm switching back to 7.0b, but it doesn't "scroll". Really annoying issue. Regards.

Have you tried increasing your playback latency (Options->Preferences->Audio)?

Dear Administrator
I've tried increasing the latency setting as you mentioned, it didn't do anything except making the icons on the standard toolbar flicker more, and the Forge to crash even more quickly. Still unable to use 8.0b. Any patch available?

Please fill in your system specs in your forum profile.

If your audio device has an ASIO driver, you may want to try it. If another audio device is available to you, that might be worth a shot, as well.

You may alternatively want to try these plug-ins in the audio plug-in chainer, as it should not exhibit this issue.

In the meantime, if 8.0/8.0a was working for you, you can try this:
1) Hold down Ctrl+Shift while selectiong Options->Preferences
2) Select the "Internal" tab
3) type "throttle" in the search box or just scroll down to the bottom til you find the "Throttle Real-time FX preview (ms)" entry
4) change this value to 100, then tab or click elsewhere to commit
5) click Apply and OK

The internal prefs are hidden for good reason. Please try to refrain from poking around in there. Hopefully, this will resolve your previewing issue.

8.0 did work, but with 8.0b SF still has major problems handling small samples, even with Throttling set to 100 ms.

This mod seemed to work at first -- I selected about 1 sec. of audio from a 44.1 x 16 file, and auditioned click/crackle, dynamics, and a few other effects and processes. But after I changed 1 param in the Noise effect, the preview became silent (although the meter still showed audio looping). Then I switched Realtime off and on and the looping stopped working (and the meter showed nothing). Then I realized SF had crashed -- some windows were blank, hourglass was everywhere, and nothing worked. (This is the way it usually crashes when working with small samples.)

Any other suggestions? Or tests I could perform? (My profile should be up to date.)

Thanks,

Allen

UPDATE:

After the last crash, I reinstated the Throttle setting (to 100 ms) and closed SF so it could write the change. Then, upon restarting, the Distortion FX did NOT crash after changing settings.

I then tried Process / Distortion, made various changes, reset selection to All Sample Data, and applied the process, and again everything worked correctly.

Another problem I was having -- iZotope plugs not previewing -- also seems to have disappeared.

However, the iZotope plugs still do not leave a processed clip. They preview, realtime or not, and honor region selections, and appear to work fine, and the progress bar shows they are working when you apply the processing. But the wave remains unchanged, unprocessed. I can even UNDO, and the null effect is undone.
