Subject:New Sonar 5.0 MIDI feature--this is it!

I was just looking over the headlines on Harmony Central, and one of them was the announcement of Sonar 5. Now, I'm not going to get into the merits of Sonar vs Acid, or anything like that. Personally, I love Sonar's features, but after playing with the demo I can't get around the workflow issues vs Acid (I like Acid's GUI MUCH better!). Anyway, part of the article listed some new MIDI workflow features:

SONAR 5 Workflow Enhancements

Integrated Inline Audio and MIDI -- all audio and MIDI editing, arranging, and mixing are now in one view within SONAR 5, providing the ultimate in flexibility and workflow efficiency. Plug-ins and Edit Views can also be docked and tabbed right within the Track View.

Advanced MIDI Sequencing -- SONAR 5 further refines the best MIDI sequencer available with the Piano Roll now inline within the Track View: edit, display and filter multiple MIDI notes and controllers simultaneously, use the built-in track toggles to auto-snap drawn notes to specified scales. Additionally, advanced step recording allows for the fluid entry of MIDI notes from a keyboard controller, into any MIDI view at any time.

When I read the second paragraph, I thought "That is EXACTLY what I was hoping Sony would do with Acid". To be able to have a fully editable piano roll right in the main track screen would be absolutely awesome. Add that to the ability to control MIDI CCs with envelopes in said piano view, and the ability to control VST effects via MIDI would make Acid's MIDI usefulness jump up about 500%. So, when the "What do you want to see in 6.0" posts start flying around even more (like they already have been), I will just copy and paste those 2 paragraphs above in and go "enough said". Oh there's more I would like to see, but this would be a massive step in the right direction. Here's to hoping.

Peace.

I hear ya’. Too much going on.

I agree. So make sure you go to the Product Suggestion page and submit this. The ACID team really does listen to their customers. Now that they’ve settled in at Sony, I’ll bet they are getting ready to deliver a killer ACID 6. No need to wait for a new thread; send your suggestions directly to Sony management for in-track MIDI editing and MIDI CC envelopes. I know I am.
