Hi there

I have a intermittent problem when recording audio . The playback and recording will freeze for a few seconds then restart . It happens about half the time I record a new audio track. I'm not using any plug ins or midi tracks . Just probably playing back 5 to ten tracks and recording one . My ram use has never been over 17 / 768 when it happens . Any advice would be appreciated as I may throw my computer through a wall next time I get halfway through a good guitar/vocal take only to have it freeze on me

It would help if you listed your system specs in your forum settings.
Is your screen saver/ anti-virus/ e-mail notifier active?

My music computer isnt hooked up to the web , and doesnt have anti virus software installed . I think the screen saver may be enabled , I never see it though

Are you recording to a separate physical hard drive? (i.e, a 2nd hard drive inside your computer, on a separate master bus, not just another partition on your primary drive?) It could be that when Windows needs to access its swap file, and if your recorded file and the swap file are on the same physical drive, it will stop recording to do so.

You also may have a terminate and stay resident program running in the background that wakes up every so often to check if you’ve place any media in a drive. Get copy of EndItAll2 (free utility) and kill everything that’s running in the background before you begin recording.

Definitely disable any form of screen saver or sleep mode, or powering down of hard drivers, etc. before recording. Also defrag your recorded media drive before each project to make sure Windows isn’t looking for little free spaces to place your recorded file. You want one big free area to record into.
