Subject:Cleaning Old Acid wav files

Curious if anybody has advice on file management when recording new audio tracks within acid projects ( not loops..I've got a working organization scheme for those..).

Example, SONAR has an audio finder tool allowing you to determine what wavs are orphaned and which ones are associated with a valid project.

For whatever reason, the Acid (I'm still on 4, btw) workflow has me trying to sort out unused wav files every few months and wishing for a more intelligent way of managing/cleaning these.

Ideas??

I keep each project in its own Folder. Then I record everything into that folder (ACID 5 makes this easier BTW). You can still have orphaned wave files but you have the option of Save and Copy all media with the project to a new directory. Then just delete the old one. It’s not as slick as what SONAR has but it beats trying to do it manually.

All my projects are saved as acd-zip files.
It's easier for archives and backups.

When I record wave or MIDI files, I save them in a temporary folder, common for all projects. After the acd-zip file is saved, the individual files can be deleted from that temporary folder.

By the way, acd-zip files can be dragged and dropped in a Winzip window to view their contents or extract one specific file.

I was only using the zips for final archives, but it does look like they might be useful for file management earlier on in the process.

I go the project folder route too. That way I can get to the individual tracks and loops without opening the project.

Ditto what JohnnyRoy and DKeenum said; I use a folder-per-project workflow as well. Keeps everything neater and I know which recorded takes belong where.

(Be sure to set the "Record" folder to "<Project>" under Options > Preferences > Folders. Before you do any recording, also be sure to save the project in the project-specific folder first.)

If only Acid would auto-name record takes in a way that references the project name, that would be a (breathtakingly easy) breakthrough...
