Subject:SF 7 - crash on opening a wav

I've posted about this before, but never had an answer from Sony. I'd like to know if anyone else is having this very frustrating problem. On browsing through files either in the Explorer window or through the 'Open' dialog, and then previewing those wavs either with auto-preview on by previewing manually, Forge 7 often throws up an exception and forces me to shut it down [error and dump at the end of this post] This is really, really annoying! Especially as SF8 is not usable and so I'm holding off on the upgrade. Please, is anyone else experiencing this? I guess I do a lot of file browsing - and quickly - but I'm assuming others do the same; this destroys my workflow and is costing me a lot of valuable time. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ben --- Here's the error: "An error occurred during the current operation. If you have a fairly small WAV file that causes the crash, could you email it to Customer Support so we can take a look at it? (Please be patient, you may not get an immediate response from CS as Vegas 6/DVD Architect 3 were released earlier this week and I am sure they are very busy right now). Any other details you could post here about these WAV files? What is the audio codec, sample rate, etc.? (displayed in the lower portion of the File Open dialog when you click on the file, uncheck AutoPlay first) What application authored them? Do other files (MP3, uncompressed WAV, etc.) play just fine? |

I reported this last year and reproed this way: Create a corrupted wav file (create a text file and rename its suffix to wav) Try to audition in Forge Boom. The latest version of 7 and version 8 correctly trap the error. Maybe you're running an older version? Angels |

Angels - isn't a corrupted wav; happens on normal, genuine wavs. I'm certainly using SF 7. SonyTSW - not really worth emailing you a wav as it happens with a lot of wav files... seemingly randomly. In other words, it doesn't always happen with the same wavs, and they play fine once/if I've managed to open them. It's on previewing that SF crashes. They're all 44.1Khz 16 bit wavs. |

I have been having the exact same problem with SF 7b. It happens a lot. One thing that may be of interest is that I'm opening and previewing files from a network share, not my local machine. Not sure if this could be the root of the problem or not - anyone else seen this behavior? I have also seen a lot of crashes in SF 7b relating to undo. I've been really frustrated and surprised at the instability of SF 7 as a whole, and I'm staying away from upgrading to 8 because I fear the same or worse. |
