Subject:Acid Pro 5 or Acid Music Studio?

My apologies for the previous post. Slip of the mouse. I have been volunteered to create 2 to 3 minute dance mixes for my daughters’ high school dance team for half time performances. The mixes will be cuts from current Pop & Hip Hop music. I am familiar with video editing, as I have been using Vegas for years and limited time with Adobe Audition. I realize Acid is not an audio editor so my question is… Is Acid the tool for this project? Sense I have no intention of taking on any more intense projects will Acid Music Studio do the trick as apposed to Acid Pro? Thanks for the help! |

Actually ACID is better suited to do this than an audio editor because it can beatmap the files so that they all play at the same tempo or time stretch to all be in the same key (or different tempos and keys if you desire). I think ACID Music Studio would be perfect for the job. ~jr |

Thanks JohnnyRoy! I decided to download the trial version and start learning the software. You’re absolutely right. This is clearly the tool for this job. Extracting audio from CD’s, pulling short phrases from the music, splicing them together, adjusting tempos for each and dumping them CD pretty much seems to be the process (basically). Again thanks for the reply! |

If you haven't found out already, you can smoothly transition from one mix to the next by overlapping their events along the timeline and then pressing F on your keyboard. This will create quick fades between the two events. (Remember that only two events that are overlapping must be selected.) You can also adjust the type of quick fade by right-clicking the fade and selecting, "Fade Type." There are several to play with. If the loop is an ACID loop, it will change tempo with the project tempo. You haven’t said what the drumbeat is but if it’s a loop it should conform to the same tempo and be in lock-step. If it’s a One-Shot then it won’t be affected by the project tempo. Understand that some loops simply don’t go together e.g., if you add a rock guitar to country drum beat it just won’t sound right. They will both play on tempo, just not with each other. It’s pretty hard Not to have everything play together in ACID so perhaps you can tell us more detail about what you are doing, what loops you are using, is the drum beat another Loop or One-Shot? etc. ~jr |

Adding to what JohnnyRoy said, sometimes ACID will guessimate the tempo of a sample that is not ACIDized. (Usually, media that's not from Sony is not ACIDized. It could be from a 3rd party or you own material, for example.) If this is the case, evaluate your media. You can usually tell if media isn't ACIDized when you click on media in the Explorer and ACID does not report what kind of ACIDized media it is. (Instead of "Loop," "One-shot," or "Beatmapped," it'll report "Audio," and the length in time.) ACID does a good job of guesstimating, but your best bet is to do the ACIDization yourself for best results.
