Hi everyone... In SoundForge 6, plugin chains were global. So if I had about 20-30 files that all needed processing, I could check to make sure that one plugin chain would sound okay for all of them before batch conversion. Or I could process them one at a time, tweaking the plugin chain settings as needed for each individual file. In SoundForge 8, plugin chains seem to be local to files. If I have a plugin chain open on one file and switch to another, the plugin chain viewer switches to an empty chain. If I want the same chain for that file, I need to save it in the previous file and open it in the next file. If I'm working on those 20-30 files, you could see how this could be tedious. I can understand how local plugin chains are a big improvement for those who do need to start with a clean slate for each file, but there are those of us who still want the plugin chain settings to stick over a bunch of files. Is there a setting or preference that I'm missing that gives us that functionality? Failing that, is there some possibility that a future version of SF could allow for this? Thanks! ~Gil Message last edited on9/16/2005 7:34:19 AM byghova. |

Hi Gil Good question and one I've asked before - for some reason this feature was removed in SF 7. The good news is that there's a way around it - see this thread: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=3&MessageID=219175 Shout back if you have any questions. B |

B Fantastic, thanks Ben! That didn't come up in my search. This will be perfect for us. You can add me to the number of people who would like the shared chainer supported again. I understand that it opens a can of worms, but I'd rather have a shared chainer and limited undos than a local chainer and unlimited undos. This is because we often work with 20-30 open files at a time, and it's much quicker and more efficient to not have to save a chain, and then select it when switching to a new file. It's certainly not a showstopper, but this is the kind of thing that makes software a pleasure to use, instead of a pain in the tuckus. :) Thanks for the info! ~Gil |

Restoring the shared chainer has been submitted as a request for future versions. If that internal pref works for you, great, but as I stated before, it's untested, so use it at your own risk. Note that in 8.0, you can use the chainer available in Batch Converter (or a custom script) for this sort of functionality, as well. J. |
