If I understand what you want it is a matte that gives the impression that you are looking through a camera viewfinder. It seems that it should be easy enough to create the matte in Photoshop or similar program.

Thanks Storyman, that's exactly what I had in mind with the crosshair in the centre of the screen, but I don't have that program so I was hoping to download that effect somewhere. Is that program freeware?

You have windows, right? Go to Start->Programs->Asseccories->Paint.

See, you had a program and didn't even know it.

Can you actually use Paint for creating a matte?
You need to have a transparent part for the effect he is looking for ...

He could use any color -- white, blue, etc -- to act as transparent for a chroma-key (or even a luminance key?)...

Don't know much about the product or it's capabilities, but Gimp is a freeware paint program that may do what you need.

One other thing to do is to keep an eye on computer and photography magazines that come with CDs. Around a year or so ago, I picked up a magazine that came with a full version of Photoshop Pro 5. Actually, I get a lot of my software that way. It may not be the most recent version, but it works for my needs.
