For me, ACID starts to misbehave if I have too many soft synths running at once. I find if I render the midi track to an audio track and then mute or delete the MIDI file, things work much better. But I have to go through the extra steps and then end up up with a bunch of extra wav files that I later want to clear from my HD.

Do others do it this way?

thanks,

Jeff

Yes, I believe that is the most practical way to offload your CPU in ACID. Other applications have this built in. It’s usually called a Freeze function but it essentially does the same thing. It renders the MIDI out to a file and then substitutes that file for the track. When you UnFreeze it swaps the MIDI track back. A little more elegant but the same result in the end.

You might want to place both the MIDI track and the rendered track into a Folder track and then collapse the folder so it only takes up one track space. This just keeps thing neater by keeping those two tracks together.

That's a good tip, too bad I am still on AP4 ;^). I do however have your instant ACID book, which has some great info on AP4, ie I just implemented your Reset all MIDI ports tip.
