I miss SmartSound

As a former Pinnacle Studio user (and I do mean FORMER since the software is now buggier than ever), the one thing I wish Sony Movie Studio had is the SmartSound feature. I really miss the ease of adding a simple audio track to my home movies.

I just upgraded to the Platinum edition with all the bells and whistles but I don't really have the time to create my own sound track with ACID XMC. I looked at the SmartSound Pro but I can't really justify $200+ for it.

What do you guys use for your music track?

Have you considered purchasing the Pro version of Smart Sount? It is a great program. In fact in a previous thread I mentioned that it is a progrom Sony should acquire.

I, too, am a former Pinnacle, and former Ulead user, and I also miss SmartSounds.

The way I've gotten around this is that I've left Ulead VideoStudio 8 installed on my system (even though I now exclusively use Vegas MovieStudio for my video work). When I need a Smartsounds track, I simply measure the duration of the needed track in MovieStudio, open Ulead, create a Smartsounds track of the appropriate duration, render the audio track as a .wav file, which I can then import into VMS.

I'm pretty sure you can do a similar process with Pinnacle (which would be the only reason to keep in on your computer!)

Freeplaymusic has some great stuff you can download and use without any charges, licensing issues etc. You can use things from your own music collection, but it's illegal unless you have a synchronisation license - obviously a lot of people do that for home consumption, but it's a very bad idea if you're going to distribute your work or show it in public.

Don't overlook the ease with which you can adjust the length of an audio event in VMS.
If you have an audio event which is approximately the right length for the associated video, you can stretch or shrink it on the timeline (by holding down the Control key as you adjust the event end point with the mouse). This allows you to alter the duration to match the video exactly, without affecting the pitch of the soundtrack (at least in VMS v 6).
Providing the adjustment you are applying is a small percentage of the overall event length, the change in tempo will not be noticable...

The difference with Sonic Fire Pro is that regardless of the length of music needed there is a beginning, middle, and end. It gives a more professional finished product. BTW their tracks are royality free.

I think SonicFire Pro is a great product. However, I don't have $269 to plunk down right now. I only paid $49 to upgrade to Sony Movie Studio + DVD, Platinum Ed.
