Subject:acid pro 5 freezes constantly ..
Date:8/22/2005 9:38:02 AM

hello,

i'm having a huge problem on ACID pro 5 .. since a few time the software freezes constantly .. every panel suddenly becomes white as i click on it and acid doesn't respond any more. The only choice i have left is then to kill the acid process, loose all my work :( .. I've upgraded to ACID 5c but had already this problem on the 5a version.

I don't know how this happened. It seems the more i use Acid and save projects the more the software is craching. I know the bug probably comes from my computer, but i have 512 RAM, PIII 1Ghz, 40 go, i should be ok ?

any help madly appreciated,

cheers

You should contact Sony directly by phone to get their tech support working with you. This forum is a peer support forum and not official support from Sony. It’s kind of hard for one of us to figure out why your computer is locking up. If I had to guess, I would say there is a bad/corrupt VSTi of FX that is causing the problem. Is it only on certain tracks or all tracks? If all tracks, is there a single FX that you applied to all the tracks?

I must say, your computer is ancient by today’s standards although I know Sony claims it will run on a smaller PC (lol). Depending on how many tracks you have and what VSTi plug-ins, you may be overstressing the PC. For example, my laptop is a P4 1.8GHz and I can barely run the Moog Modular V plug-in. The GUI is practically unusable because it takes so long to respond to changes. It might be time to upgrade your PC. If you have the Media Manager running, try disabling it in the preferences. This will free up some resources on your PC.

Please provide some details about your project and the exact step-by-step procedure that results in the freeze up.

What VST/VSTi are you experiancing this with? All, some, as specific one?

How is the VST connected to ACID - track or bus?

How many tracks are in your project?

What type of audio i/o driver are you using? What version of drivers? What is your buffer setting for audio?

Are you working with MIDI in this project?

What is the simplest form of project that will reproduce the problem? 1 track with one specific FX/VST/VSTi? 100 tracks?

etc, etc, etc.

Peter
PS: Please fill out your system specs and make them visable.

Hello,

First of all, thanks for the replies.

> Is it only on certain tracks or all tracks? If all tracks, is there a single FX that you applied to all the tracks?

I'm gonna describe here the last time the software blocked (which was 30 sec ago).

step 1 - opening ACID, starting an empty project

step 2 - adding a small (like 5sec) wav track, til there, everything's fine

step 3 - right click, selecting "add a midi track"

and that's about it. The software freezes instantly, white screen ...I'm only using ACID, no other software running in the background, i killed every process that could be killed before.

It didn't happened before, and i haven't installed new VSTi since. I'm also sure it'snot my configuration, since before ACID always worked, even if it lagged sometimes it never blocked that way at the start of an empty project.

EDIT : Another freeze, even simplier :

step 1 - open ACID, empty project

step 2 - Add a wav file

step 3 - Click on track FX

step 4 - Add a new FX (on top of the track EQ)

then it freezes ....

>What VST/VSTi are you experiancing this with? All, some, as specific one?

Any VST/VSTi .. Even with track fx the software blocks up instantly.

>How many tracks are in your project?

1 or two, and very small each.

>Are you working with MIDI in this project?

yes, at least i try too .. maybe the problem comes from there .. i've noticed that with no midi the project doesn' freeze, at least with few tracks (i haven't tryed with many)

>What is the simplest form of project that will reproduce the problem? 1 track with one specific FX/VST/VSTi? 100 tracks?

i replyed above

>What type of audio i/o driver are you using? What version of drivers? What is your buffer setting for audio?

audio device is : windows classic wave driver, playback buffering=0.1sec

thanks by advance ..

cheers

You are saying that this didn't happen in the past, but has just recently started? If so, then something has changed on your system.

It sounds like something is corrupt with your DX support in WinXP.

>>Any VST/VSTi .. Even with track fx the software blocks up instantly.
This doesn't mean anything.

Please be specific. Name the exact VSTi that causes this and the exact VST/DX audio plugins that cause this.

Q: Are you using any external MIDI ports? If so, what MIDI hardware do you have enabled?

Try this:

BEFORE adding a MIDI track, add a DLS Softsynth or VSTi synth to you project.

Now add the MIDI track.

Does the problem occur?
Does it only occur with the DLS synth?
Does it only occur with a SPECIFIC (please be specific about the VSTi that causes this.)

hi,

well, sometimes i din't even use a VSTi ..However, it used to froze with any VSTi : i tryed Trilogy, Battery 2 as well as simpler ones such as drumatic..

Good news is that ...it doesn't semm to froze anymore !!!!! (at least not at much as it used to do) ... things i've changed :

- changed playback buffering from 0.1 to 0.15 secs

- Changed the audio device type from "Windows classic wave driver" to "Microfsoft sound mapper". I think the problem comes from here, because before i used to use "Microsoft sound mapper" and for some reason last time it was on "Microsoft classic wave driver" ..

- got rid of some VSTi like Battery 2 demo (i have the full version now) and JS magneto 1.1

- switched off all MIDI device available in input or output.

If you know where it comes from i'd still be glad to know..

cheers
