Subject:Layer tracks without recording older tracks

How can I overdub a track on top of another with out also recording the old tracks. That's what happens now. I record track one with a guitar part A and when I over dub with guitar part B I get guitar part A and B. I don't want that. I use a P4 Dell gen 3 computer and the guitar comes off my amp into the line in of the sound card.

You have your sound card set to record the mixed output rather than just the line input. Go into the Options / Properties / Recording screen for the sound card and select line input.

I'm using Acid Xpress 5 ( I did order the new full version, should be here friday). Should I be trying to make these changes in the Acid program or in the sound card ,Creative Labs, Audigy programs. I can't get to where you said I should go though the Acid Xpress program (that tree doesn't happen) and I can't figure out where to go through the Audigy programs. There is no I just standing here flapping my arms.

Double-click the little speaker icon in the task bar tray to open up the mixer control panel forthe sound card. Click Options / Properties / Recording / OK.

I got it to work. It was a little different but the dialog wasn't the same. I clicked a box that said "Record without monitoring" under the ANALOG MIX slider in the MS XP mixer.
