Subject:Create a 6/8 Loop from a 4/4 Time

Does that make sense? I write a ton of songs in 6/8 and almost all the loops in acid are in 4/4. I've been told there is a way to do this and I am just getting frustrated. Any ideas? Cut and Paste? Anything? Thanks! Ripley |

To convert from 4/4 to 6/8 you need to change two things (obviously) the number of beats in the loop and the way ACID interprets one beat. Take any 4 beat loop and paint it on a track for 6 beats. (1.5 loops). Then use Ctrl+M to render to new track. You now have a loop in 3/4 time. To make it 6/8 you need to open the properties of the new loop, go to Stretch tab and change the Number of beats from 6 to 3 (to go from quarter notes to eighth notes). Click the Save File icon and close the properties menu. Your new loop should now be in 6/8. The only problem is the accents may be in the wrong place depending on how the original 4/4 loop was played (i.e., accent on 1-3 or 2-4). You might be able to use a groove map to change the feel to something that fits the new timing. ~jr Message last edited on8/26/2005 8:38:40 AM byJohnnyRoy. |

The "Drum Tools" loop library has some 6/8 loops mapped to 4./4, as does "Steve Tibbetts" -- use them for reference. (also "Ethnicity" has some loops that blend nicely with 6/8 time) I also do a lot of 3/4 or 6/8 time music - and mostly I have to create my own loops for it. I also shift drum loops off the standard beat to get some interesting rythms with odd time signatures. |
