Subject:Frequency spectrum in a mix Posted by: Djipy Date:8/23/2005 1:22:38 AM I know this is a common question, but anyway... I have created songs in Acid with my own loops, made with VSTi plug-ins. Now, I'm busy with the final mix. The mixes will be used for a show, through a huge amplification system. How can I be sure that the frequency spectrum is OK, I mean, not too much bass but enough, and the same for treble sounds. In one word, I want my mixes to be close to any commercial CD. I plan to use iZotope Ozone but... Does anyone know about correct values (e.g. average -12dB at 100 Hz, -24dB at 2 KHz, etc...) for a well balanced mix ? Other ideas ?

There is no substitute for a good room, with good monitors, and a good ear. You could use a spectrum analyzer plug-in like the free Voxengo SPAN, or a tool like Har-Bal to get a visual representation of what the sound looks like, but using a visual representation of an audio signal will only get you so far. At the end of the day, its how it sounds that counts. ~jr
