After doing a clean re-install from 8.0a-to-8b, some, but not all of the VST plug-ins are missing. I have the correct paths selected in Options> Preferences to the VST folder. Vegas can "see" all 30 them, SF only recognizes 23. ???????

Thanks for any help.

Which ones?

Also, see if you have a file called "vst_grovel.log" in the Sound Forge directory. If so, you may want to forward it to tech support.

Sonic,
Thanks for the clue with the vst_grovel file. I have found the offending .dll and removed it.... Which stopped the remaining VSTs from loading. (after the letter "S"... as in SIR_1008.dll. (SIR convulution reverb) I'll have to check for bugs in the SIR camp.

Hmmm...It's actually supposed to skip the offending plug-in and continue. I'll take a look.

You might want to try refreshing on the VST prefs page.

Thanks,
J.

I have a related problem:

In Vegas 6, my VST plugins (which are in a subdirectory of my Cakewalk folder -- for Sonar 4) are registered automatically. For some reason, I have to manually copy all of my VST *.dll files into ANOTHER directory and add the path as "Alternate VST Search Folder 1" before Sound Forge will recognize them. Why would this be?

NOTE: The "Default VST Search Folder" field (the one you cannot edit in the VST preferences dialog) shows the same path in Sound Forge 8 as it does in Vegas 6. I'm pretty sure this is a universal VST setting stored in the Registry.

PROBLEM SOLVED

After I said that both paths were the same.....I had a new idea about how to check that. I copied both paths (yes....Ctrl+V works even when you can't edit text) and pasted them in a text document. Here is what I got:

Sound Forge 8 Default VST folder path: "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Plugins"
Vegas 6 Default VST folder path: "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Plugins\"

I guess the "\" at the end is REALLY important. At any rate, I found that path key in the Registry and fixed it. SF8 now finds plugins just like Vegas 6. DUH!!

Now I just wonder how I managed to put a different default path in Vegas than in SF....
