Before Music Studio 6 this was an easier choice. Music Studio 5 was pretty limited with its fixed set of built-in FX since FX can be a large part of your overall sound. Now with Music Studio 6 introducing function like DirectX and VST FX, and VSTi support it you can do a whole lot more without needing ACID Pro. So you have to ask yourself if you need the additional functionality that Pro gives you. We really can’t answer that. For example, if you have a Soundblaster card, it doesn’t matter that Pro supports 24bit recording because your sound card doesn’t! If you are one of the people who feel they don’t need the Media Manager (and you are only going to turn it off) then that isn’t a reason to upgrade to Pro either.

For me the major things that Pro adds are Buses, ReWire, FX automation, 42bit/192Khz recording, Media Manager, Groove Mapping, Folder Tracks, 5.1 Surround, & key maps. If you don’t need any of these, then you don’t need Pro. The only way to find out is to download the trial of Pro and use these functions for yourself to see if feel you need them. Personally, I couldn’t work without them.

You get a ton of advantages, as mentioned, but a word of wisdom: The time to move on to the pro tier comes when you've completely outgrown what you have right now. The pro line has a lot of features in it, and it can be overwhelming if you're still not well-versed in the studio line. However, if you're comfortable and yearning for more, go for it. You'll have more control over your content, no limitations of how-many-of-this-and-this-I-can-use, and and MUCH faster work flow, with much more potential sophistication in your sound.
