Subject:Troubles updating to Acid Pro 5c

Hi,

I've never updated my Acid Pro 5 yet, but as the midi-channel-bug has been fixed with update c I gave it a try. Well...

1. I ran the downloaded update .exe-file and got asked if I'd like to overwrite several files that already existed in the Acid 5 folder. I select "No for all", as I had no idea what most of these file names stood for and didn't want to overwrite any preferences I'd already customized in Acid.

2. So, next the installation wizard told me it detected an earlier version of the program and asked if I wanted to update it. After clicking "Yes", the installation got successfully finished.

But whenever I run Acid 5 (no matter if I click the desktop icon or start it from the Explorer), the splash screen displays "Acid 5 (Build 265)", "About Acid Pro Software" in the help menu shows the same build. Needless to say, the midi channel bug is still there.

I've tried the same procedure several times, but it won't update my program.
What can I do? Should I overwrite the files I'm asked about by the install wizard? Which ones?

YES, ALL of them! ACID needs to update its files. It’s not going to overlay any of your preferences. Just let the installer do what it wants and you should be OK.

That did it. Which doesn't mean the midi channel bug is fixed now, it still resets every channel but the first to "1" and every track name to "New Track" after saving (or when reloading, to be precise). I've asked Sony support about this month's ago, I thought it would be fixed with the latest update.

I replied:
Just updated to 5.0c myself, and lost access to my Edirol, UA1000 sound I/O. I still have access to the Echo Audio I/O that was plugged into the PCMCIA slot when I did the upgrade. I use ASIO and can get to that (the Echo) no problem, but no sign of the Edirol in the pull down menu in the Audio tab in preferences. Ditto for SF8 (which I haven't upgraded to the new version yet.

OK, I've found a work around for the reset-of-midi-track-name-and-channel troubles I've described above. If you're not expierencing this problem, you can stop reading now ;-)

(Applicable for Acid Pro 5:)

1. After inserting a new MIDI track into your Acid project, add the GenieSys MIDI Editor to the already available editors in the "Track Properties" window.

2. In the GenieSys editor, select the track you want to edit, then 2.1) choose a channel from the dropdown menu, 2.2) tweak the volume in the "Vol" column to any value, 2.3) enter a new track name (still in the GenieSys editor) and 2.4) save your midi file (right upper corner or the track properties window)

3. To add a new midi track, switch to the "General" Editor, press the "Add New Track" button, then switch back to GenieSys' "MIDI Editor" and repeat step 2.


For me, it only works this way. Don't ask me why.
