Subject:ACID pro 5 saturated sound
Date:8/17/2005 2:47:42 PM

Hi all,

i'm experiencing a litlle problem on ACID pro 5 when mixing several channels of music (like drums, bass, battery ..etc) : the sound is saturated ! Like a distortion when you put the volume too high. I don't how to solve it .... it happens especially when i'l using midi VST : for example with a virtual bass (trilogy) i cant manage to have a loud bombastic bass with all the rest of the instruments without saturation from everywhere...It did used the equalizer to do the best as i can but it doesn't do much unfortunably. Did this already happened to you ? Any help greatly appreciated

cheers

It is unfortunate that ACID Pro 5 doesn’t have VU meters on the tracks so it’s hard to tell what is hot. You might want to route your tracks to some buses (which do have meters) so you can see what’s going on. Make a bus for the drums, bass, battery, etc. and route those tracks there. Then you can mix from the buses with more control and see what might be too hot in the mix.

the tipp JR gave you is good. just route the tracks to busses then you can see what is clipping/too loud.

on the other side.. use compressors/limiters on the tracks to get rid of that problem. to me it sounds like something is clipping and therefore pushing other tracks away. this can be fixed with some dynamic effects... try using wave hammer or something similar to get pressure without having to set the volume higher.

hello,

thanks for the replies,

i will try to route my parts through buses...but i cant' use wavehammer because many of my tracks are already being treated in soud forge were i do use the compressor and other dynamics effects. However, i've never used buses .. what are they supposed to be for at first glance ?

cheers

You might be overdoing the effects in Sound Forge which is why things are distorted when you add them together in ACID. You might want to try mixing the tracks dry and getting things balanced before you start using compression and other dynamic effects. This may be your problem.

Buses allow you to control a collection of tracks while maintaining the relative volume between the tracks. Buses are a great organizational technique for grouping all the like tracks (e.g., drums) in a project under a single fader. You can add FX chains to buses just as you can with tracks. This also makes buses an ideal place to put common, FX-like compression or limiting, that multiple tracks will be using.

You might find that by using buses you won’t have to process your sounds in Sound Forge so much. You can add common FX to the bus.

thanks!

i tryed the bus routing and it's better :) .. Regarding the effects i usually do them in sound forge since the software is designed for it and i find it more convenient to work with.
