HI all, wonder if you can help. I'm trying to get into the inner workings of how acid pro 5.0 deals with midi. I've impoted a midi file and got it to output each track to a different softsynth. All works well. However on some tracks, my softsynths revert to a 'default' sound when I play them. I can't seem to see any event in the list editor (such as the MSB:0 LSB: 0 53 Synth Voice) to cause this. Any ideas?

UPDATE: It seems that acid pro is maybe reading patch settings etc from another track. Is this possible and if so a bug?

Also does Acid pro read in all the midi at the start thus setting up all instruments. Or does it do it on the fly?

Actually, ACID does NOT assign patches to it’s tracks like other sequencers. That’s because one ACID track can contain multiple MIDI tracks BUT only be assigned to ONE MIDI instrument. So it’s reading this stuff on-the-fly and this is a ripe area for confusion.

What I do is use Geniesys StolenTrack to extract each MIDI track to its own ACID track. Then I have a nice one-to-one mapping like other sequencers. I have a tutorial on my web site on Using StolenTrack to extract MIDI tracks to ACID tracks.

Hi HonnyRoy, thanks for your reply. I'm aware of the track situation, so what I do is create the relevant multiple tracks in acid pro, each one with the same midi file, but with only one of the midi tracks set to solo. That way I can assign a seperate soft synth to each track.

I have thought about your solution before and will experiment with it, especially seeing as you have recommend some software to do it.

UPDATE: Does Geniesys Stolen Track work on XP? I get a 16bit Windows Subsystem error saying that the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. I'll research to see if this a bug in my system........

HI there, found out my SP2 upgrade corrupted my autoexec.nt all fixed now and isntalling. Will let you know how I get on. Thanks again.

Yea, I’m running it on XP SP2 just fine. What you are doing sounds like the same process. I think you will like Stolen Track. It’s a bit cleaner since the other tracks aren’t even there (no need to solo).

AAAARG!!! Acid pro seems to be just as unstable as always. I can't use Geniesys Stolen Track as Acid Pro just craps out when I start to use it. Someone find me a brick wall please!
