Subject:VST effects glitchy upon export. Help?

I've been using Acid Pro 5.0b along with some free VST effects. It all works well while editing the project, but in the file I exported, the tracks with the vst effects enabled are a bit quieter and have pops and clicks in the recording. It almost sounds like really bad clipping, but that's not what it is. I've narrowed it down that its only vst effects and not dx effects. I'm not positive it it is every vst effect, or just a few, as I have not had time to fully test it and I am currently away from the music PC, but it has definitely occured with at least 3 different effects (free ones: Cyanide2, LFX 1310, and Blockfish). These effects all work and export properly in my other hosts (Sonar3, Project5 2.0).
My computer is: Dell Inspiron 6000. Pentium M 1.86 ghz, 1.5 gb ram, Echo Indigo IO.

Thanks for any help.

Did this always happen or did it just pop up recently?

Have you tried completely uninstalling and then reinstalling ACID? (Use only the update available here. Keep your serial key handy.)

As far as I know, yeah this popped up recently. This is a new computer and I don't have these problems on the old one. Reinstalling was going to be my next course of action unless anyone had any different ideas. I'm in the middle of some big projects though, and reinstalling makes me nervous :).

Well, I reinstalled and the glitch is still there. Any other ideas? If you want to check it out, here's a sample of what the glitch sounds like: www.supergreenx.com/glitchydrums.mp3

Hmm. Something is obviously causing the glitching on the new system. What's the audio interface on the new system?

Try also reducing or turning off video acceleration.

i saw once a similar behaviour. i was using tc works sidechain compressor and it did work fine when running the project. after rendering i faced also crackling and glitches but the really strange thing was, that it didnt happen on every format. when i rendered wav it did happen and when i rendered mp3 it was all ok. have you ever tried to render any other format?

The audio interface is an Echo Indigo IO (PCMIA laptop audio card. Its really nice). I don't think its the audio interface though, since I believe rendering doesn't involve your audio output at all.

I'll try rendering to other formats. I'm also downloading 5.0c right now. I'll install that and see how it goes.

Wow, you're right. I attempted exporting to .wav, .aif, .wma, and .mp3 and the problem was only apparent in the .wav and .aif. The compressed formats, wma and mp3 sound fine. What. The. Hell?

edit: now wait a sec...now its doing the glitching even in wma's now

FIGURED IT OUT! :)

Turns out, I had never really pointed Acid to my vst folder. How was I using VST's then? I have Cakewalk Project5 v2 and Sonar3 which use a vst wrapper program. Acid was seeing my wrapped vst's that I use in those program and using them as dx's. I didn't know the difference. I loaded all my vst's natively in Acid and they seem to be working fine. Huzzah.
