Subject:USB Recording

I use Acid 4.0 to record and edit highlights for a baseball broadcast. I have an Alesis Multimix8 USB board with a USB port. I cannot seem to get Acid 4.0 to recognize it as a recording device. It will record, but at a pretty low level. Being able to see the highs and lows of a track help me edit, but recording with USB makes that pretty tough as there are almost no peaks or valleys on the track. I also use the ALesis board to push the sound out to an ISDN Router for on air broadcast (line level) and also onto Windows Media Encoder for an online broadcast of the game.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to boost the volume for USB recording?

Odd that you can't at least get a decent signal with that mixer. What is the max dB ACID reports?

I have had this problem with recording from instruments using USB.

One thing you could do is if you have Sound Forge 7.0 you can input the audio you want into it, then click on processing or effects and lok for normalize. It doesn't make it perfect, but a lot better.

The second thing is to get a signal enhancer such as an M-audio fast track USB device. This lets you record at a higher level.

Finally, you could check the window settings and see if your recording input level is all the way up.

Hope this helps.
