Subject:Extra copies of soft synths in Mixer window

Howdy all, Every time I insert certain soft synth's (Absynth 3.0, ) it shows up in the Mixer window as three seperate synths. Though it really is only 1 - say if I insert Absynth 3.0, then Albino, then choose to link a MIDI track to a synth it will give me "Soft Synth 1(Absynth)", then "Soft Synth 4(Albino)", ignoring the other copies of the originals in the Mixer window. Any ideas? Thanks for the help, Nathan |

I don’t have Absynth 3.0 but my guess is that Absynth supports multiple outputs and so ACID adds a Bus for each output that Absynth has. This gives you more control when mixing. I have Kontakt and this allows me to load multiple sample instruments into Kontakt, assign them unique MIDI channels and then route them to different buses. So if I load up Piano on channel 1 and Strings on channel 2, I can route my MIDI tracks to Kontakt and still control the volume of the Piano and Strings independently in ACID. This is one of my favorite new features of ACID Pro 5. ~jr |

Ah, ok, makes sense. Thanks. What if I didn't want to make use of the multiple outputs, disable this feature? It seems that when I use a synth that creates these extra busses, it takes more cpu power (similar to when i have multiple vsti's running).. |

This is controlled from within the soft synth itself. ACID just enumerates the outputs that the synth exposes. I know in Kontakt, there is an option on the general preferences menu that allows me to control the number of stereo and mono outputs for any combination up to 16 stereo or 32 mono. See if Absynth has something like that in its options. ~jr Message last edited on7/20/2005 2:56:15 AM byJohnnyRoy. |

It doesn't have that option, unfortunately. Neither does Kompakt, another NI instrument with similar output abilities.. I wouldn't worry about seeing a performance hit with this type of VSTi. Kompakt supports 16 stereo outs (like Kontakt), and I've loaded three instances of it in Acid projects before with no ill effects, save for the massive number of output busses cluttering my view. If anything, I'd like to see the ability to make folders for buss outputs in a future version of Acid, similar to folder tracks on the timeline. - Nick |
