Subject:A way to keep the volume in the green?

Hi, Acid Pro (latest virsion) must have a way to restrict the overall rendering volume so that it stays in the green. Some plug-in or something that can be attached somewhere and used so that any areas that go into the red can be prevented from doing that... or better yet, the overall volume of the piece is just averaged lower until peaks are in the green. Yes I'm a complete know-nothing newbie! Thanks, Rusty |

Hi, the included Sony track compressor doesn't do a very good job at limiting, basically what you want is a brickwall limiter, I'm sure you can find one online, do a search for Free Limiter VST or something like that. Then you just put it on your master buss and say goodbye to the red. As an aside, it would be a good plug-in to include, if Sony is considering expanding their offereings. |

http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-series.php I find these plugins outstanding for free. You will find a master limiter in this package, but I would download all of the free classic package and check out all these free plugins. Did I mention FREE? Also don't forget to check out Izotopes Ozone(not free)and Izotopes Vinyl (free). You can check out Ozone's free demo for like 30 days or whatever it is. Jon |

Thank you!!!! And these can be added to Acid's project?? Do I add them as plug-ins to Acid first? Finally, I guess I'll have to break down and figure out Buses and what the master bus is found but any hints would be nice! Thanks! Rusty |

You could put a limiter or compressor on the master buss. I use a compressor from Voxengo (Crunchessor) as well as Kjaerhus' Golden Peak-Pressor and PSP's Vintage Warmer. I don't generally use a limiter, but it is completely approiate to use use one. I, generally, don't do any processing on the master buss. Acid's over-all volume is a little low, so I open the file in Sound Forge to set the volume level. That works best for me. |

Is Sony's WaveHammer plugin included in Acid Pro? It does brickwall limiting. |

> I find these plugins outstanding for free. I agree the Kjaerhus VST plugs are awesome even if you had to pay for them. > And these can be added to Acid's project?? Do I add them as plug-ins to Acid first? VST should all be installed in the directory. A good place is C:\Program Files\Vstplugins. Then check Options > Preferences > VST Effects to make sure that’s where ACID is looking for them. > Finally, I guess I'll have to break down and figure out Buses and what the master bus is found but any hints would be nice! Think of a Bus as a power strip. It lets you plug lots of things into one outlet. So if you are going to use a reverb on several tracks, route those tracks to a bus and place the reverb on the bus (or insert the reverb as a bus track/send). Buses also allow you to control the volume of several tracks as if they were one. (i.e., route all the drum tracks to a bus and then you can control the overall drum level in the mix from that bus.) The master bus is where all the other buses get routed. There is a whole chapter on inserts, sends, and buses this in the book Instant ACID that Iacobus and I wrote. (ok, it’s a shameless plug but it only costs $16 and will help get you started) ;-) ~jr |
